The IdeaGen Hackathon is a 4-day event that brings together students from all faculties in a competitive and collaborative environment. In groups, students will be working together in groups of 4 to develop innovative ideas intended to epitomise the Historic Heart Precinct. The two-hour tailored tour will take participants thick into the history of Perth. The tour guides will unfold hidden stories and narratives behind the heritage of Perth's East End. 23rd Oct -  3pm - 6pm Academic Day @ 410.201. Participants will go through a competitive process. Judges will hand out interim prizes and the final four teams will be determined.  25th Oct -  4pm - 6pm Final Pitch @  QT Perth, 2nd Floor Meeting Room. The final four teams will enter the final round of selection; pitching their ideas to state and federal government representatives.     CORE is again hosting this year's Space Apps Challenge hackathon, together with Space Hub Perth, Unearthed and Spacecubed, over the weekend of 20-21 October. The challenge theme this year is Earth & Space, there are some exciting challenges and potential for the winner to head to NASA. Originally from Perth, Enrico is currently based in Mojave, California, where he leads operations for The Spaceship Company - Virgin Group’s first engineering, manufacturing and flight test enterprise, as the world's first company building and testing a fleet of commercial spaceships. Enrico is focusing on the company’s transition from a start-up with one customer and one vehicle in assembly business, to one with 450 employees, multiple customers, flight test operations and multiple vehicles in work, with its first spaceship, VSS Unity now entering flight test phase. Enrico has lived and worked in Australia, Europe and the US, with experience across cities, offshore gas platforms and remote deserts. Enrico's participation is supported by  the Perth USAsia Centre for the The Zone Above: The Ind-Pacific Era in Space on 8 Oct 2018.  About SpaceApps Space Apps is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Part of the Open Government Partnership, Space Apps is an annual event that pulls citizens together regardless of their background or skill level. Don't let the name fool you... it's not just about apps! Tackle a challenge using robotics, data visualization, hardware, design and many other specialties! Inspire each other while you learn and create using stories, code, design and, most of all, YOUR ideas. Show us your problem-solving skills and share your talents with the world! How it works Participants will organise into project teams to work on solving one of the specific challenges issued by NASA. Teams utilise publicly available NASA data to design all kinds of innovative solutions to the set Challenges. Any project teams get to pitch their solutions at the end of the weekend and there are some great prizes up for grabs.         HBF is organising their 10th annual Run for a Reason in 2019. But they need some ideas to make the entertainment at the event awesome. Therefore, you are invited to participate in the HBF Hackathon where you'll be brainstorming ideas, and competing to present the best 'entertainment' ideas to HBF to be used at next year's HBF Run for a Reason. Whether you have great ideas, want to meet some friends, want to bring some friends along, or just want to have a bit of fun, we hope you'll get on board and support the upcoming HBF Run for a Reason.           Are you keen to help create the future of Road Safety Education in WA? If you are a current primary school teacher who has ideas about how road safety education can be improved we want you to be part of this hack! You’ll be led by an experienced Innovation Coach, learning about design process in a friendly event with like-minded professionals. We invite current primary school teachers to register to join us at RAC West Perth for a road safety education hackathon! WHAT IS IT?  A hackathon (hack) is a creative problem-solving methodology that sources inspiration from the crowd. You’ll work in a team to come up with solutions to a series of problems or challenges. An Innovation Coach will lead the group through design thinking concepts to solve problems around road safety education. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?  RAC Community Education work in partnership with the Network Teach Road Safety Team to provide free road safety education to primary school students in WA. To help us continue to improve our current road safety education offering we are running this event to work together to innovate, inspire and develop ideas that will improve road safety education for primary school students.             What is the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Hackathon?  Well, see if any of the list below appeals to you: learning about the FIRST LEGO League 2018 Robot Game learning about how to use LEGO Mindstorm Robots improving your general teamwork, collaboration and resilience skills. If any of them appeal to you, then take the plunge and get a team together and register for this free event. 10 max to a team (4 to 6 people would be ideal) You will spend the day problem solving, building and programming LEGO Mindstorm robots, learning the rules of the 2018 FLL Robot Game, and trying to get your team in a position to get the highest score at the end of the day. It is intended to be like any FIRST event, full of cooperation, gracious professionalism, fun and hard work. We provide the 2018 FLL Robot Game table and tasks, the LEGO Mindstorm Robots for you to use, the software to program them and endless tea and coffee. You will BYO laptop/s, food, energy and enthusiasm.                 The Autism Academy for Software Quality Assurance is organising another Software Testing Hackathon for the July holidays. This time, we are delighted to have the Curtin ELSIE development team supporting this Hackathon. Elsie is a study assistant mobile app aimed at making Curtin students' learning life easier. The app is designed to student manage their timetable for classes and exams, alert them when assignment deadlines are due or when their library books are due, and give students access to essential unit information. ELSIE is planned for release in semester 2 this year and this Hackathon can be seen as a beta testing opportunity for the app. This Hackathon will take place over the following two days: Thursday, 12 July - starts at 9am and ends at 3pm Friday, 13 July - starts at 9am and ends at 3pm Participants must register for both days. Simply want to learn a new technological skill that could open the door to future opportunities? PowerApps is for you! Following the success of similar classes in New Zealand, Ashlee and Paul Culmsee are back in Perth with a PowerApps hackathon targeted specifically at young adults. PowerApps is a Microsoft service which allows nontechnical users to build mobile applications for business and share them securely within organisations. PowerApps skills are becoming increasingly sought after in organisations, and it is a good way to dip your toes in and give coding a go without having to learn complex languages. Best of all, no IT, developer, or advanced programming knowledge is needed! If you’ve ever done a basic formula in Excel or used a graphic calculator you have all the skills you need. This class will be covering the basics of PowerApps, and will touch on a small bit of SharePoint. NOTE: This event is for young adults (16-26) STRICTLY No IT professionals!
