Australians! If you're interested in sustainable development, then you're invited t participate in a Hackathon on alternatives to the proposed Adani Group Carmichael coal mine. At this event -- hosted by the Institute For Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology in Sydney -- you'll be challenged to collaborate with like-minded individuals to come up with an innovative and credible alternative to the Adani mine.

Hackers, hipsters, hustlers, and humanitarians in New South Wales! Vibewire invites you to participate in Vibewire #Hack4DomesticViolence. You'll collaborate with like-minded technology, engineering, and social impact students, social entrepreneurs and startups to tackle the challenge of domestic and family violence. Come as a team, or join one at the event. Design and prototype an innovative solution that will make a real difference to the lives of domestic violence victims.

We would love to walk more. However, we don't always know the variety of vibrant experiences and walking routes within reach of our workplace. Let's change this scenario for the better. Change it one scenic, healthy step at a time. Walk this City is a movement to introduce desk-based workers within Business precincts to healthier, more enjoyable walking trails. Trails that take in quieter back streets, cultural attractions, natural beauty and gathering spots e.g. markets, cafes etc.  Over time (based on participant feedback) we will collate and curate these trails into a "Walk this City" creative walking App. Feed your creative and wellbeing juices with an early morning or late afternoon walk through and to your neighbourhood's open spaces and cultural attractions. Gain refreshment, expand your business network, look at the everyday from a variety of 'thinking-hats', discover the skill of dynamic observation, be present by asking lot's of questions and practise the art of making non-obvious connections.  Our inaugural, "Walk this City - Parramatta" excursion will take place this Friday afternoon at 3:15 pm. We will meet at the Centennial Memorial Fountain within Centenary Square and do a 25-minute circuit as a group. The walk will take place rain, shine or rainbow! If raining, bring an umbrella and enjoy walking in the wet. It's fun. We'll be discussing a simple 'walkability' checklist prior and during the walk. Join the gathering! See you for "Walk this City". We will meet at 140 Redfern Street (a few minutes walk from Redfern Station) and follow the City of Sydney curated walk through Prince Alfred Park and end at Kent Street (just by Town Hall Station). The walk itself will take around 30 minutes and will take in Prince Alfred Park, the old goods line and Chinatown before the final stop at Kent Street. Following this, we can have an optional coffee and discuss our observations. The walk will take place rain, shine or rainbow! If raining, bring an umbrella and enjoy walking in the wet. It's fun. Ok, fellow tech startups, we know hiring the right tech talent for your business is extremely time-consuming, expensive and most importantly, you cannot be certain that the candidates you have all have the right attitudes you're looking for.  There's good news! We're here to help you hire great junior developers through a hackathon where the students will complete a series of challenges to showcase their skills and attitude to solve problems independently under pressure. Startup Summer is a 7 day, intensive qualifier event where we've hand-picked the top 10-15 candidates from a pool of hundreds across UNSW, UTS, and USYD, to complete a series of tech challenges around full stack web development.  Our metra in selecting our candidates is focused on a student's attitude, ability to solve problems independently and if they have an "entrepreneur's mindset". Rather than selecting students just because they are from a computer science degree but doesn't have the right attitude and understanding towards product and customers, we back students who've got the correct attitude and have shown incredible initiative through their ability to solve problems, learn quickly and ship features within our 7-day qualifier. We have an extremely exciting pool of candidates such as an ex-day trader with advanced math majors who's made tremendous progress building JS stack application, all the way to high school graduates who have made a chatbot in Angular and Node.js to help manage his school's timetabling.  We are specifically looking for 10 early stage, funded startups who have a clear need to recruit great tech talent efficiently with confidence. We'll work closely with these 10 companies to validate our approach to help companies hire clear insights and data. Instead of paying the current tech recruiters a hefty cut of 10% - 15% first-year base salary, we'll take a small referral fee of $800 per successful candidate hire, which is a fraction of the cost in terms of founder's time, effort or recruitment costs. The Immersive Technology Hackathon for Disability Support aims to bring together bright and motivated individuals, with the goals to develop impactful solutions for the disability sector in a highly collaborative and innovative environment. We will be kicking off this hackathon with a speaker panel featuring subject matter experts in the sector. We welcome a broad range of participants, from engineering, media, design, art, and education who are interested in creating a social impact through immersive technology.
