UQCS Hackathon 2018
31 Aug - 06:00 PM
Saint Lucia, Australia
Hello everyone, we're happy to announce our biggest event of the year, the UQCS hackathon, will be on August 31st - September 2nd.
If you aren't familiar with how the UQCS hackathon works, it's pretty simple:
Form your team
Build something cool
Present what you have made
Win prizes
In the past people have built websites, desktop apps, games, hardware, and robots and if you've never been to a hackathon before, don't worry as we'll be running a talk beforehand walking through what to do at your first hackathon.
In terms of awards and prizes, here's what's up for grabs!
Best Overall - $1000 (Sponsored by Technology One)
Awarded to the best overall project in the hackathon. Projects will be judged based on their Complexity, Creativity and Coolness.
Best Newcomers - $400Awarded to the best project created by a team consisting of only first/second year students, following the same criteria as best overall.
Best Design - $400Awarded to the project with the best design.
People’s Choice - $400Awarded to the project which is voted highest by hackathon attendees.
The hackathon is free for students, and $30 for others ($20 for early bird). As usual, we will be supplying lunch and dinner during the hackathon too so make sure to mark yourselves down on our eventbrite so we can know how many people to cater for. See you there!

Code Network Winter Hackathon (2018)
17 Aug - 06:00 PM
Fortitude Valley, Australia
The topic of our yearly Winter Hackathon is always "Build whatever, as long as it's awesome!". This hackathon is strongly focused on the hack you build. The aim is to make the most awesome thing you can over the weekend. There's no selling, market validation or any other business stuff. That's right, just make something awesome!
Venue Location: River City Labs - you can find it on Google Maps for easy directions. Once you get to the building, it can be a little confusing. We'll try to put signs out but if you get stuck give us a call (a phone number should be on the welcome email you'll get the day of the event). Once you get out of the elevator turn right and you should see the event registration.
Tickets: Due to the expected high demand and venue security requirements, everyone will need a valid ticket to enter the building. All participant tickets are completely free! The spectator tickets require a small donation, and there's only a limited amount available. You can pay as little or as much as you want. (although eventbrite enforces a $1 minimum)
This description will be updated with more information closer to the date. Fore more information check out the event page on our website: https://codenetwork.co/winter-hackathon-2018

FAQs
What is a designathon? This is a workshop where we identify a problem and design a potential solution for the problem.
What should I bring? A laptop or tablet to do some research and create a short presentation for an audience. You should also bring your positive mindset!
What's the agenda? We'll be going through problem topics, form teams, and come up with use cases for drones. At 4pm we'll be running through presentations for all the groups and announce the winners by 5pm.
Who can come? Anyone who is at school from years 7-12.
What if I don't have a team or know anyone else going? The beauty of this workshop is the ability to meet new people and work with them. This is a great networking and learning opportunity.
How many people from a school can come? As many as you want! However we would recommend sending 10 students per school.

Disrupting Law (QLD)
03 Aug - 05:00 PM
Brisbane City, Australia
What is Disrupting Law?
Disrupting Law 2018 (3 August – 5 August) is a unique 54-hour hackathon / design jam for tertiary students focused on finding new opportunities in the legal industry. The event is an unparalleled opportunity to work closely with lawyers, entrepreneurs, technology professionals, management consultants and others from industry to practice creative problem solving, learn about the business and practice of law, and hone your pitching skills.
On Friday evening (3 August), all contestants will gather at QUT Gardens Point for an opening celebration and we will allocate student teams to law firms. Students and their law firm mentors will spend 54 hours designing an idea to “disrupt law”. All teams will pitch to a panel of experienced judges and the public on Sunday night (5 August) for a range of opportunities, awards and prizes. We will provide you with food and drink for the entirety of the weekend. As there will be alcohol on Friday night and Sunday night you must be at least 18 years of age to participate.
You must be available for the whole weekend, and while we will try to cater for your requests to join a team with friends, part of the fun (and the challenge) is that we randomise teams so you meet new and interesting people with perspectives from other faculties. All tertiary students are welcome to participate, no matter their university or degree. As you must hit the ground running, we particularly encourage those with law and technology backgrounds to apply (but an interest and a measure of enthusiasm will suffice!).
Our amazing event sponsors include Janders Dean, Thomson Reuters, PEXA, QUT Law School, QUT Business School and QUT Foundry.
Tickets are limited so please get in fast!
