About the expert: Chris Iona is the Founder of Future Pass, and has spent the past 14 years building, leading and scaling some of Australia’s best startups.  His most recent role was VP of Engineering at Hipages, which saw him grow the team from 5 to 30, transforming the technology stack and tech culture to leverage cloud and modern practices.  This led to a significant increase in service availability, deployments and velocity. Prior to that, Chris was an Engineering Director at Bigcommerce, and in that time helped grow the team through fast and strong growth.  In 2014, Chris was listed on AIM’s 30–under-30 list for excellence in Management.  He regularly presents at CTO Summits and conferences. Chris delivers the course in person, weaving in real-life examples from his time at Hipages and Big Commerce. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions by email in the week leading up to the workshop and Chris will personalize the content and exercises to address everyone’s goals. At the end of the course you will walk away with new skills and a clear plan that you will be able to implement immediately. Female techie students in and around Sydney! You're invited to participate in the Ms. Secure Coder Hackathon. Come and hear a motivational speech the first Saudi female ethical hacker, attend a secure coding workshop, and then take part in a hackathon where you'll be challenged to find a solution to a pressing problem in software development. Collaborate with like-minded Ms. Hackers and Secure Coders and compete for the prize for the winning team.

Do you have your own personal student struggle you want to fix? Do you want to win a prize for doing so? If so, come to CSESoc’s second hackathon! You will have one day as a group to come up with a solution to a problem through coding, all surrounding the theme of student struggles. If it can solve a problem a student has, no matter how big or small, it is the perfect opportunity to learn some new skills, get practical experience and run ideas through people in the industry. Your solution can be anything from a website to an app to a piece of hardware. There will be prizes, food throughout the day and mentors from tech companies to help you along the way. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are, as it is a good learning opportunity for people who have never been to hackathons or have little experience. Workshops will be run throughout the day to give people a hand. So even if you aren’t sure about your idea or how well you will go, the workshops are set up to help people at all different stages of development.You will participate in teams of 3-5. Our new office is conveniently located just outside the South Concourse Exit of Central Station.  If you are driving, just a fair warning that parking might be difficult around there. There is some free on-street parking in Surry Hills but most parking is ticketed.  What can I bring into the event? Please bring along your laptop and necessary chargers!  Will food and drinks be provided?  Yes! We will have light refreshments to support you in creating your amazing ideas.  I know someone else who would like to join. How do I invite them?  Great!
