There is a revolution taking place in the global energy sector. The extraordinary uptake of solar and wind power, energy storage and new renewable fuels means the traditional power grid is about to be turned on its head.

Unlock ideas, educate influencers and stimulate entrepreneurship in the energy industry worldwide. Get access to data, experiment with new forecasting and machine learning methods, test your ideas and collaborate with talented mentors. Learn about consumers’ motivations, discover emerging technologies, tap into Melbourne’s entrepreneurial fire power and shake up your thinking, all while growing your network.
This two-day hackathon will bring experts in industry and policy together with researchers and students from diverse disciplines. From the Melbourne Energy Institute and Powershop, as well as our partners AEMO, Arup, Siemens, Citipower Powercor, City of Melbourne, and the Victorian State Government.
Theme
With Australia’s energy costs continuing to rise, dealing with the challenges of adapting to a new energy system has become increasingly urgent.
Energy Hack 2018 will challenge teams to create new projects to make Australia’s energy system more affordable, reliable and reduce emissions. Teams will need to apply creative thinking to a pressing national challenge, and develop an innovative technical solution that will make cities more sustainable and liveable.
The full details will be revealed at the official launch night on Friday 19th October at 6pm.

RMIT Financial Planning Hackathon

The RMIT Financial Planning Hackathon will focus on Corporate Governance in financial planning.
Held during Fintech Week, the hackathon will tackle legislative and compliance challenges to find solutions that improve customer experience, are compliant and don't impact profitability.
The two day hackathon will see students and industry thought-leaders working together through the processes of problem identification, solution ideation and business model canvas, to identify a range of ideas and solutions.
The hackathon will be facilitated by Jeanette Cheah, Co-Founder, The Hacker Exchange and will feature industry guests (refer to agenda below).
PLEASE NOTE:
Attendance on both days (Friday & Saturday) is required to take part in this hackathon.
Student participants will also be required to complete the Lean Business Basics micro-credential before Friday 12 October. The credential will take 4 hours to complete online and is free for current RMIT students. Enrol in the Lean Business Basics credential here.

A short, fun, co-creation research challenge based on blockchain at the centre of convergence around Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things and Machine Learning.
The day will include Lunch and networking drinks. We begin with high-powered morning talks to define Blockchain within the context of Industry X (formerly Industry 4.0) We move into a swift mini-sprint of fun Design Thinking & rapid prototyping. A final pitch session is judged by research and industry practitioners who offer feedback on the day's activities and outcomes.
The Challenge
Focus on Blockchain solutions and the challenges and opportunities it presents for professionals across all industries; design, computer science, health, finance, engineering, manufacturing, architecture, media, business, and policy.
What to expect
Teams will examine issues and opportunities for Blockchain in the design of automated systems with a focus on the ethics of new, trust-based cultures. What are the social and ethical implications of Blockchain as a new system of communication and commerce?

Be a part of this year's Hacking For Humanity: Hack the Home, a hackathon presented by Girls in Tech Australia to be held in October. This year's focus will be on the charities that help the homeless.
This hack aims to solve some issues for charities focused on homelessness using technology. Whether it is coming up with a new marketing or communications strategy or creating an app to engage with a diverse audience, hackers have the opportunity to choose from a broad spectrum of business problems.
The problems will be pitched to you during the Pre-Hack (October 5) when you will also form teams - bring your girl gang and help drive innovation in these charities.
Following that, the teams of hackers will invent, problem-solve and prototype for two days over a weekend (October 13 & 14).
Join the brightest minds and help make a difference. Oh, and we're doing it for love... Gratis! It's on us!
