VPRO Medialab invites you to sign up to participate in the Open Demos VPRO Hackathon - Literature & Poetry. You'll be challenged to come up with novel and creative ideas -- maybe 360 degree VR books, or poetry based literature games, or novel new digital forms for storytelling -- and present your prototype to each other and the jury.

The Hogeschool PXL invites you to sign up to participate in an event to develop best practices for open data and a parallel hackathon. Datasets from a number of external parties, including City of Hasselt, City of Genk and Tourism Flanders will be available for the hackathon. You'll collaborate in teams to work with these datasets to develop new innovative services that will help cities, institutions and businesses serve their constituents.

Hackers, designers in Belgium! Get ready for Hack Belgium with the pre-event workshops. You'll get the chance to explore the newest disruptive technologies, and decide how you can use them to tackle one of the 20 challenges at Hack Belgium. You'll hear from experts from Belgium’s top universities, research institutes, and fab labs. They'll share the latest developments in areas such as advanced materials, artificial intelligence, genomics, robotics, energy storage, Internet-of-Things, additive manufacturing, virtual & augmented reality, renewable energy technology, blockchains, and drones.

De centrale vraag: "wat is de impact van data op onze levens vandaag en morgen". Klaar om een glimp van de toekomst te vangen?  Het thema van de eerste editie is open data. We gaan na welke opportuniteiten er schuilen in het open en vrij maken van data (van overheden, bedrijven, organisaties, ...). Wat is de toekomst van open data in België (Alexander De Croo)? Wat als steden de burgers zelf laten innoveren met open data van de stad (Bart Rosseau)? Wat is de rol van jonge hackers (Pieter-Jan Pauwels)? Hoe creepy wordt het als je live politie interventies en noodoproepen in Seattle kunt afluisteren en bekijken (Dries Depoorter)? EXCLUSIEF: Dries Depoorter komt zijn installatie "Seattle Crime Cams" opstellen. Met dit project haalde hij wereldwijde persaandacht (o.a. The Washington Post, Wired, Dazed, Independent, ...)
