The third edition of the EU Datathon has been officially launched on 28 January 2019 by the Publications Office of the European Union, in partnership with the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The EU Datathon is a growing-in-popularity event aiming to further stimulate the use of open data issued by the European Union. It allows competitors to showcase their data skills and innovative ideas. Furthermore, it offers them the opportunity to network and gather support in order to continue developing their ideas after the competition. The challenges Participants are invited to develop apps and interactive visualisations offering new services or public information insights to citizens, public authorities and businesses. They have to use at least one dataset made available by the EU Institutions, Agencies and other bodes and combine it with at least one dataset of the competition’s partners.

This hackathon is part of the #dataforbetterhealth initiative of the Federal Minister for Public Health, the Federal Minister for Digital Agenda, and the Federal Secretary of State for Privacy. During this hackathon participants can explore and analyse an anomyzed version of the administrative database "Documents PH" .This dataset contains information about medication delivery in all Belgian hospitals, since 1994. The dataset is provided by the National Institute for Sickness and Invalidity Benefit (RIZIV/INAMI)). Participants of the hackathon are invited to attend the information session on 10.01.2019 at DigitYser. The initiators are convinced that invitees can use these hackathons to discover and use the potential of these data for their own objectives. This includes scientific research, but also a more effective development of medicines and medical devices, better patient care, improvement and support of clinical trials, support for personalized care, support for prevention, patient-oriented care, and lower medical costs. HACKATHON #1 (voorbereidende Workshop):   10 januari 2019 (doors open 13h00; start program 14h00 – until 18h00) : https://dataforbetterhealth.be/hackathons/  The workshop introduces the first of a series of hackathons, each with a different dataset from the National Institute for Sickness and Invalidity Benefit (RIZIV/INAMI)). Attendees of the workshop can take part in the hackathon, which will take place in January 2019. The hackathons can identify the obstacles in the FAIR use of data, and help formulate, test and implement solutions to these obstacles. During this information session the administrative database Documents PH will be presented by the responsible data managers and primary users. The metadata is made available and explained during the information session. The current use of the database is also explained, as well as possible challenges for the hackathon.
