CALGARY REGION HACKATHON 2017
Brought to you by the Alberta Geomatics Group, Calgary Regional Partnership, DeltaGEO & SAIT
The Calgary Region Hackathon 2017 is a three-day competition to create a mapping or software solution, such as an application or website, using Calgary Region Open Data. You will have the opportunity to pitch your product to a panel of judges, in addition to fellow Hackathon attendees, for a chance to win amazing prizes! The first 50 people to register will receive an awesome swag bag!
Date: Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19, 2017
Time: Friday - 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 am | Saturday - 10:00 am to 12 am | Sunday - 10:00 am to 8:00 pm (lunches and dinners will be provided along with snacks and coffee).
Location: Aldred Centre, SAIT Campus
Capacity: Space is limited to 200 participants (must be 18+)
Theme: “Why the Calgary Region?” Create maps, apps, and websites helping users understand and enjoy the abundant Calgary Region opportunities for recreation, industry, and healthy communities.
Prizes: $5000 for first place, $2000 for second and $1000 for third...and more!
Teams: Teams must be between two and six people. You can register for the event as a team or you can come solo and join an existing team or form a new one.
Resources: There will be mentors on site all weekend. In addition, Esri Canada recently published a blog outlining some free resources available for the weekend of the Hackathon. Power bars and extension cords will also be on site, but you are required to provide the hardware and software you will need to complete the Hackathon.

Mayor's Youth Council High School Hackathon

A two day event where teams of high school students from across Calgary work together and collaborate, using the City of Calgary open data catalogue to create technology based solutions that can improve the City of Calgary for youth.
Location: Calgary Municipal Building (800 Macleod Trail SE)
Capacity: Space is limited to 75 participants.
Prizes: $750 for first place, $500 for second and $250 for third...and more!
Forming Teams: Teams must be between three and five people. You can register for the event as a team or you can register as an individual and you will be placed with a team.
*Please note that unfortunately we are unable to provide technology for all participants of the Hackathon. Please bring your own laptops, iPads, etc.. to use throughout. Thanks!

ProtoChallenge

Students -- high school, undergrads, grads, and post-docs -- in the Calgary area! Come and participate in the ProtoChallenge. You'll get the opportunity to pitch ideas that help the community, then build a prototype to gain skills, find potential employers, and win prizes. Collaborating in a group, you'll pick one of the event's themes, then validate the market and technical feasibility, before actually creating your prototype. Event themes are:

»Towards a low carbon energy future,
»The 3Cs of Radical Change: Creativity, Community, and Collaboration, or
»Wild card: Any other idea.
