Civic Tech Toronto is hosting our third annual hackathon in partnership with the Toronto Public Library on Open Data Day (March 3rd, 2018).
As design and technology continue to transform our workplace and what it means to be a citizen – this year we challenge you to redefine The Future of Work. Join round-table discussions with domain experts and hack on civic tech challenges in collaboration with talented and passionate individuals across various backgrounds and expertise.We welcome all members of the public: coders, designers, policymakers, government staff, students, and creative minds who share an interest in making Toronto more responsive, prosperous, sustainable and equitable, through tech and design. Anyone is welcome to sign up – coders are welcome, but you don't have to be a coder to contribute!

Hungry for hacking?
From on-demand delivery services, to predictive technology, food tech is changing the way we eat. On February 16th, join Platterz for 24 hours as we get together to remix the food industry and find innovative solutions towards improving food-related tech. Come meet other food- and tech-lovers, bring an idea to life, eat a bunch of pizza, and have a lot of fun!
The details:
Your hack should be related to food, and should be as creative as you like! There are prizes for hacks related to supporting health, generating leads for a particular service, and the use of a chatbot. It should be a functioning app or prototype.
No cost to participate.
Unlimited pizza & drinks!
The prizes:
Lots of awesome tech prizes, including: PS4, Xbox One, VR headset, drone, headphones, nerf gun and more.
Opportunity for an internship at Platterz.
Who’s invited:
Any and all U of T students in teams of 1-4. All skill sets are welcome, from developers, to UX/UI designers, to marketing experts and foodies! Please make sure each team member registers individually.

Do I have to be a U of T student to participate?
Yes, this Hackathon is for U of T students only.
Can I join if I don’t know how to code?
Yes, whether you are a designer, an entrepreneur or just have a good idea, you are more than welcome to join!
How many people may I have on my team?
The team size is limited to 1-4 participants.
Can I join without a team?
Yes, you can other hack alone, or we can help you find a team. Just make sure to let us know in the registration form and we will help you find a team.
How much does it cost to participate?
The event is completely free!
I have a dietary restriction, can you accommodate my dietary needs?
Yes - just let us know your dietary restrictions by contacting us on Eventbrite before the day of the event, and we’ll accommodate you.
Will the hackathon continue overnight?
You’ll only have 24 hours to design and code your hack from start to finish - so whether or not you hack through the night is up to you! The event will continue through the night, but naps are totally welcome.
Is there a theme or subject for this hackathon?
Yes - the theme of the Hackathon is food tech. Any hacks related to this theme are welcome!
We’ll also give away prizes for teams with projects that incorporate hacks for health, lead generation, or the use of a chatbot.
Can I use pre-existing code?
No, in the spirit of the Hackathon, you have to use fresh code.
Can I use external services?
Yes, you can use any services, libraries, or open source projects you’d like.
