Entrepreneurial science and engineering students in and around Berlin! You're invited to participate in the 2nd Human Brain Project (HBP) Curriculum workshop series. The theme of this event is Entrepreneurship in neuroscience - Turning science into invention and innovation. You'll be challenged to work in a multi-disciplinary team to assemble a joint applied research proposal to address an issue in the field of brain science.

We are having our second Hackathon in context of the “World Refugee Day”. The hackathon is hosted by Digital Career Institute. Entrepreneurs and techies in and around Berlin! If you're interested in the beauty business, then Schwan Digital Studio invites you to participate in BeautyThon: The Beauty Business Hackathon. You'll get to learn from successful founders, and also to network with leaders in the beauty industry. You'll also be challenged to design your own beauty business and present your proposed business for a chance to win 10,000 euros in prize money.

This is an exclusive event for a maximum of 10 guests.  The pharma industry is beginning to acknowledge a crisis - despite increasing monetary efforts towards drug development, the number of newly licensed therapies stagnates (Tufts institute, 2014). Many claim to have already found solution to the crisis: digital health, AI, machine learning, big data and genomics. In reality these innovations are both a blessing and a curse. For few these terms are more than mere buzzwords that fell short of expectations, only a handful are successfully using the innovation behind them. In order to get beyond the hype and best benefit from revolutionary technology, decision makers need to have a thorough first-hand understanding of the meaning of these terms, what strategies they enable and what remains science fiction. In the course of the round table we will enable a deep understanding of the new technologies in a hands on way. Participants will understand the exact concepts behind the technology without being bored with math. After the potential of digital health, AI, machine learning, big data and genomics becomes clear, we will see that existing strategies must be challenged - 21st century technology requires 21st century business cases. This will be the focus of the remainder of the session with existing real-world business cases, as well as outlining your future projects. About the organizer:Lutz Haase, MBA Lutz has more then a decade of digital industry experience, consulting Fortune 500 corporates on digital transformation & innovation. He has run several innovation initiatives, hackathons, design thinking workshops and design sprints to deliver innovative digital prototypes, products & services for brands like AOK, Bayer, Biotronik, Boerhinger Ingelheim, Roche Diagnostics or Thermo Fisher Scientific. He holds an MBA and is a well connected mentor in the Berlin start-up ecosystem. As an ambitious leader, he combines a strong entrepreneurial drive and a creative mindset, while he feels home at the intersection of User Experience Design, Business Model Innovation and Technology. Dr. Jörn Klinger Jörn Klinger is a data scientist with a background in linguistics, psychology and computer science. He holds a Master of Science at the University of Oxford, where he worked on what is now called deep learning and delivered the best dissertation of his cohort. He went on to pursue a PhD at the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied social learning from three different perspectives: He did field experiments in an indigenous community in Mexico three months a year and then corroborated his findings by building computational models and using big data from social media. After his PhD Jörn completed a Data Science Bootcamp as top of the cohort, which let to a position in the management of a big data start up in London. Soon after that he met Marco and ever since fully focused his machine learning skills on genomics. In only two years time he already had an impact on the digital health scene, as he was invited as a speaker to many regional as well as (inter)-national events, e.g. Europäischer Gesundheitskongress, Bundesverband der Pharmazeutischen Industrie). Dr. Marco SchmidtMarco is a biochemist with expertise in chemical synthesis and action of drug molecules. While deeply immersed in several experiments during his Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Cambridge, he realized the great potential of using novel machine learning approaches in drug combinations.
