Living sustainable is the only way forward if we want to survive as a humanity. With rapid population growth and urbanization, municipal waste generation is expected to rise to 2.2 billion tonnes by 2025, according to World Bank. It's the right place for you if you have already switched to the low waste lifestyle and want to do more as entrepreneur. It's the best place if you have a business idea ranging from a physical product or invention to a software (a mobile app) or sustainable initiative. Circular economy has so many business opportunities that are in high demand! Do you want to be part of this future?
What's different about this event?
To show that going zero waste is possible, we will make sure the entire event is a green event itself! There will be no disposables, all the food and beverages will be sourced locally, and we will used the recycled materials for work to ensure that no waste is sent to the landfill.

Sowing the Seeds: Platform Cooperativism for Asia
28 Sep - 09:00 AM
, Hong Kong
Join the first event seeking to explore ways in which cooperatives can join the digital economy in Asia.
We invite interested citizens, policymakers, designers, IT professionals, media and legal scholars, representatives of cooperatives, unions, and non-governmental organizations to “Sowing the Seeds: Platform Cooperativism for Asia” to be held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), September 28-29, 2018.
Working language of the conference will be English.
For the first time, participants from across Asia, the Pacific Rim, and beyond will meet to discuss how the platform model, rooted in the principles of broad-based ownership and democratic governance, could come to fruition in Asian countries. Participants will analyze the on-demand economy. Platform co-ops will exchange best practices.
A collaboration between the Chinese University Hong Kong and the Platform Cooperativism Consortium at The New School in New York City, this event is focusing on the following questions:
— Global and local contexts: How can the seeds of platform cooperativism spread across Asia? What are the local needs when it comes to worker voice, democratic governance, and fair pay?
— Success stories: In Asia, how can platform co-ops succeed in sectors such as care work, food delivery, transportation, and translation?
— Cooperatives: In Greater China, India, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Southeast Asia, how could cooperatives of various forms meaningfully join the digital economy and empower workers, women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and others?
— Finance: How to start a platform co-op? How to finance it?
— Governance: How to secure democratic decision-making among distributed workers?
— Openness and Transparency: Why fighting for cooperative data ownership and a diversified digital economy is at the heart of this work?
— Intersections: How the commoning movement and platform co-op movement may cross-fertilize?
— Policy and Sustainability: How to improve the regulatory environment to secure the long-term success of cooperative business models of Asia?
The information-packed conference will address the above questions while facilitating dialogue and collaboration across geographical, cultural, and sectorial boundaries.
Preceding this two-day event, there will also be a “Co-op Hackathon 合作松” during September 26-27, 2018. The hackathon will bring together co-op member-owners, IT programmers, graphic designers, and digital media analysts from across Greater China (mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong). The goal of this hackathon, focusing on projects in the local communities of Hong Kong and South China, is to inspire collaboration between co-ops and technical circles. Please contact us directly if you are interested in this part of the event. Details and registration for the Co-op Hackathon: http://caa-ins.org/archives/2739

What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is a creative problem-solving event during which people come together to transform ideas into reality. As a part of hackathons, contributors devise a means for change (local, global, business, community, etc.), all via technology. These events attract students and professionals with interests in leadership, technology, and teamwork to create an impact on their societies. They learn and collaborate on software and hardware projects. Most importantly, you can look forward to amazing guest speakers, networking opportunities, helpful workshops, skilled mentors, learning (of course), fun, and great food. Teams present their products in short pitches at the end of the hackathon.
At the Global Youth Health Summit & Hackathon - 2018, we will be hosting two optional seminars, Coding 101 and ‘How to Give an Elevator Pitch’, to help teams create and give successful pitches.
What should a hackathon team look like?
A successful team involves entrepreneurs, marketers, data scientists, web developers, and UI/UX designers. Therefore, while the nature of the word ‘hackathon’ tends to drive inexperienced coders away from the event, hackathons in fact require multiple fields of study and provides participants a great networking and start-up opportunity. Over the course of just one day, you and your team will have the opportunity to create something potentially world changing.
What is the problem we want to solve?
Approximately 1 in every 5 youth aged 13–18 (21.4%) experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their teenagehood. Teens struggle to deal with the stigma surrounding mental health disorders, often leading to hiding these real medical problems.
Why should you participate?
#MDJrHacks is a great opportunity for you to work with new people, network with professionals, and create something that could make the lives of thousands better. If that’s not incentive enough, the top four teams will receive bragging rights and prizes!
Community Service Requirements
Community service hours will be awarded to registered and attending youth participants as part of the Global Movement #YouthNow to drive awareness for Youth Mental Health. Total number of hours awarded vary for Hackathon, Conference and Volunteers. Official certificates will be issued.
FAQs:
Who can attend?
We welcome professional, college and high school participants. If you are interested please register above.
What about food?
We will provide dinner and breakfast for participants, as well as snacks throughout the event.
What should I bring?
Any form of ID (HKID, passport, or school ID) is necessary to participate in the hackathon, so please do not forget to bring yours.
Most hackathon participants work all-night or sleep very little throughout the event. Therefore, although not absolutely necessary, we recommend all participants to bring basic toiletries and maybe a sleeping bag. Besides that, bring your computer and any other hardware you may use during the hacking, and most importantly, bring your sharp mind!
What if I don’t have a team?
If you don’t have a team, don’t worry. If you register as an individual, there will be plenty of time for team-building and project ideation at the event.
What if I don’t know how to code?
Coding is not an essential hackathon skill, and successful teams will often consist of a variety of members who bring different skills to the table. That being said, we will be holding a brief Coding 101 seminar at the beginning of the event.
What about hardware?
While you are welcome to bring some of your own, we will be providing basic hardware (such as Raspberry Pis and Arduinos) at the event.

MDJunior is excited to host its second youth leadership conference, Global Youth Health Summit 2018, on September 22-23, 2018 at Hong Kong International School. The theme of the conference is “Youth and Mental Health”. The aim of the Summit is to bring together youth (high school and above) from all major schools and colleges of Hong Kong with leading professionals from the fields of healthcare, service, government, media and other organizations, to empower youth voice in the area of mental health.
Over the course of the Summit, youth attendees will be empowered through keynotes, panels, and workshops with local and global leaders to have their needs understood and their voices heard. This is an invaluable opportunity to build critical leadership skills, foster new partnerships, learn about the issues surrounding youth mental health, and the role of young adults, such as yourself, in mental health.
Our goal is to achieve impact, scale, and visibility.
Our Background

This Summit builds on the tremendous success of MDJunior's first leadership conference, GYHS 2015, held at Emory University, Atlanta, USA, inspiring over 150 youth and their families. At the #YouthinHealth Conference, MDJunior convened over 100 distinguished youth from more than 20 schools/colleges, 19 sponsors/exhibitors, and 12 exceptional speakers from world-class organizations like the CDC, Emory University, Rollins School of Public Health, and Forbes 30 under 30, among others.

For those who are also looking to pursue the field of healthcare in the future, this is a fantastic opportunity!
Students who participate in both the Hackathon and Summit will earn MDJunior’s Young Fellow certification. Participants in the Hackathon can also earn credit for service hours.
