07 Apr - 09:00 AM
Manado, Indonesia
Ocean SOS is a uniquely designed summit integrating both local and international officials, funders, innovators, academics, and other stakeholders to create a global network among regenerative ocean initiatives with a focus on bridging next-gen approaches in technology, decentralization, community governance, blended funding, and cultural integration. Our Goal is to facilitate working relationships between public benefit and private sector organizations- through the support of funding models, supporting tech, and improved communication between stakeholders working to save our oceans. The Hackathon: OceanSOS is partnering with “Make for the Planet” and ConservationXLabs to design solutions to major ocean challenges.Teams will post and iterate on their solutions in the Digital Makerspace, an online site to incentivize the development of conservation solutions through small grants, partnerships, and access to a diverse community of changemakers.  Challenge Topics include: - Engineering Ecological Resilience in Near Shore and Coastal Areas - Ending and Recovering from Marine Debris - Reducing the Ecological Footprint of Fishing through Smarter Gear - Transparency and Traceablility from Sea to Shore: Ending OverFishing - Protecting Critical Ocean Habitats: New Tools for Marine Protection - Reviving Dead Zones: Combating Ocean Deoxygenation, Dead Zones, and Nutrient Runoff - Ending Marine Wildlife Trafficking - Combating the Effects of Ocean Acidification See more details about the design challenges here. Selected teams will be able to continue to develop and prototype their challenge at “Make for the Planet” competition within the 5th International Marine Conservation Congress (IMCC5) on June 24-29, 2018 in Borneo.   Please use this Eventbrite page to RSVP to attend the Hackathon and support students and bright minds in solving complex challeges to save our oceans.
