Open Data Hackathon
18 May - 08:15 AM
Cork, Ireland
Cork Institute of Technology in association with the Open Data Engagement Fund is hosting its inaugural Open Data Hackathon on Saturday the 18th of May 2019.
The Hackathon will bring together developers, product designers, and enthusiasts who have an interest in combining Data Analytics (DA) & Artificial Intelligence (AI) with Open Data to construct a new product or service.
To start the day, you will have the opportunity to pitch your idea to everyone in the room, form a team of interested parties and get to work! If you have nothing to pitch, Don't Panic! Listen to the pitches, identify an idea you find interesting and would be enthusiastic to work on, go have a chat and see where you can contribute!
The event will include mentoring from experts in the fields of Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence. At the end of the day, submissions will be judged by an expert industry panel, winners selected and prizes awarded!
As our three sponsors have come on board Poppulo and Johnson Controls and the Central Statistics Office (CSO) we can now announce the prizes for the top three teams.

FAQs
What do I have to bring with me? You will require a laptop and a charger to be able to work on your project. We will provide everything else.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? An electronic or printed ticket is required for registration.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? There is onsite parking - come directly to the Melbourne building on Rossa Avenue. The main car park to the north of the building will be open. If travelling via public transport, the 205 Bus stops directly across the road from the Melbourne building.
What's the refund policy? You can get a full refund 7 days before the event.
Who is the event targeting? Technically and non-Technically minded individuals alike assuming you are interested in the utilisation of open data for the greater good. It is an opportunity for you to meet individuals with similar ideas.
Are their limits on team sizes? The hackathon is team-based, any individual (or groups of individuals) are welcome to attend and pitch an idea, form a team and then work on the idea for the day (throughout the 3 hacking sessions). A team can be formed prior to the event if they so wish but we are intending on limiting team sizes to 2-5 people. Pre-formed teams would be required to pitch their idea and you would be encouraged to accept individuals interested in collaborating/contributing if under the size of 4/5.
Using Open Data? The only restriction placed on the Hackathon is that it incorporates Open Data from the national data portal (data.gov.ie) in some format, each team will specify the field to which the idea is being applied and the idea will be judged on its merit within the chosen field from our panel of judges.

FutureMed Festival [Design & Innovation Challenge]
11 May - 10:00 AM
Limerick, Ireland
FutureMed Festival
The FutureMed Festival is a multi-day event aiming to promote engagement among clinicians in areas of digital technology likely to be essential to the development of healthcare in the future, as identified in the recent Topol review in the NHS. We aim to encourage the development of cross-disciplinary collaboration, and to raise awareness of the possibilities of digital technologies and how they can be used to solve real clinical problems. In practice, this will take the form of a number of evening “workshops” over the course of a week of May 6th, on topics including robotics, informatics and artificial intelligence, offering an introduction to the key principles of these areas of emerging importance, an overview of the promise they offer to the development of medical practice, and guidance on how to get involved for those interested in furthering an interest in these areas.
The week will culminate in an all-day “hackathon”-style event on Satuday May 11th. During this final event, problems identified by clinicians will be put forward, and solutions will be rapidly developed and prototyped over the course of an intensive day by collaborative teams of clinicians, designers and engineers under guidance from a team of senior mentors. These solutions will then be pitched to our team of judges, with prizes for winners & the possibility of further development towards clinical application. Throughout the week, networking events will encourage discussion between clinical staff, designers and those with a technical background on ideas for collaboration, with guidance from our senior clinicians, entrepreneurs and industry partners on how to develop these ideas. These events have the backing of the UL Hospitals Group, with funding from the HSE Spark Initiative, and sponsorship from a number of industry partners for the “hackathon” event.
