We’re inviting young people from across the Midwest (and beyond) to join us for a day of technology-based fun in Limerick Institute of Technology. We’re looking for 1024 kids to take part. We’ll have coding workshops, demos from companies (big and small), talks and a hackathon. And all this FREE! We will be running beginner and intermediate Scratch workshops for the younger attendees along with WebDev and hardware workshops for the older age groups. These are aimed at across the skill levels so both existing attendees and those that might have a passing interest will find a workshop to suit on the day. Please take care in selecting workshops and filling out the required information as doing so incorrectly will make it harder for us to hold the required place and could result in places not being available.  Workshops: We will have four sessions over the day at 10.30am, 12pm, 2pm & 3.30pm . At the next stage, you will be able to select a timeslot followed by a workshop per person from the selection listed below. If your required workshop is greyed out in the session you are booking this means it is booked out and you will need to try another session. Beginners ScratchLearn how to program your own basic games and animations - Choose this workshop if you have never used the Scratch programming environment before. Intermediate ScratchLearn how to program more advanced games and animations - Choose this workshop if you have used the Scratch programming environment before. Beginners Web DesignLearn how to create your first website using HTML. Intermediate Web DesignLearn how to make a website interactive using HTML and Javascript. JavaJava is one of the world’s most popular programming languages and is the backbone of many of the programmes you use every day. Learn how to write your first java programme. PythonPython is one of the easiest programming languages for a beginner to learn. Master the basics and create a simple game. Raspberry Pi The Raspberry Pi is a micro-computer the size of a credit card. Learn how to write a simple program that controls a mini set of traffic lights Micro:bitAn introduction to coding on the BBC Micro:Bit. ArduinoLearn how the Internet of Things brings hardware and software together. BlenderBlender is an open-source software package for creating high-quality 3D graphics and animations for Video Editing and Game Creation. Unity:Ever wanted to learn about Games Development? Unity is a popular tool for creating 2D and 3D games across a number of platforms. It has been used to create games such as Temple Run, Angry Birds and Pokemon Go! Hackathon & Scratchathon: There are two competitions taking place on the day. Please note participants in these will be unable to do any workshops but will have time for talks and showcase. All teams will need at least one laptopThe Hackathon (aged 12+) is a competition for teams of 3 kids who have some experience of Web Design, App Development or other coding skills. Teams will be given a social problem at the start of the day and must come up with a solution by the end of the day to build a program, app or website that solves this problemThe Scratchathon is a junior hackathon for teams of 2 kids who have experience using the  Scratch programming tool. Teams will be given a theme and have to create a game or animation using Scratch based on the team. ******Booking for this will open shortly*******
