FutureMed Festival [Design & Innovation Challenge]
    11 May - 10:00 AM
    Limerick, Ireland
FutureMed Festival The FutureMed Festival is a multi-day event aiming to promote engagement among clinicians in areas of digital technology likely to be essential to the development of healthcare in the future, as identified in the recent Topol review in the NHS. We aim to encourage the development of cross-disciplinary collaboration, and to raise awareness of the possibilities of digital technologies and how they can be used to solve real clinical problems. In practice, this will take the form of a number of evening “workshops” over the course of a week of May 6th, on topics including robotics, informatics and artificial intelligence, offering an introduction to the key principles of these areas of emerging importance, an overview of the promise they offer to the development of medical practice, and guidance on how to get involved for those interested in furthering an interest in these areas. The week will culminate in an all-day “hackathon”-style event on Satuday May 11th. During this final event, problems identified by clinicians will be put forward, and solutions will be rapidly developed and prototyped over the course of an intensive day by collaborative teams of clinicians, designers and engineers under guidance from a team of senior mentors. These solutions will then be pitched to our team of judges, with prizes for winners & the possibility of further development towards clinical application. Throughout the week, networking events will encourage discussion between clinical staff, designers and those with a technical background on ideas for collaboration, with guidance from our senior clinicians, entrepreneurs and industry partners on how to develop these ideas. These events have the backing of the UL Hospitals Group, with funding from the HSE Spark Initiative, and sponsorship from a number of industry partners for the “hackathon” event.

Ní gá go mbainfeadh sé díreach le teicneolaíocht amháin, fáilte roimh rannpháirtithe crua-earraí a chuir i bhfeidhm nó fiú an coincheap amháin a fhorbairt! Ag an deireadh, cuirfidh daoine a dtionscadal i láthair os comhair na moltóirí mar phitseáil agus roghnaífear foireann mar an buaiteoir agus dár ndóigh bronnfar duais orthu.CAIDÉ AN TÉAMA AGUS AN FÍS AG BAINT LEIS AN HACKATHON SEO ?Tá mic léinn a labhraíonn Gaeilge agus atá sásta seirbhísí a úsáid trí Ghaeilge. An rud atá uainn ná go mbeadh tuilleadh seirbhísí ar fáil trí Ghaeilge a threiseodh an Ghaeilge agus a bheadh úsáideach i gnáth saoil muintir na Gaeilge. Is é dúshlán an Hackathon seo ná chun teacht suas le seirbhís Gaelach atá dírithe ar saol na mac léinn.Mar atá thuasluaite, níl an imeacht seo díreach bunaithe ar an teicneolaíocht ach tá muid ag tnúth leis an teicneolaíocht a bheidh fite fuaite tríd na tionscnaimh uilig. NÍL A LÁN GAEILGE AGAM AN FÉIDIR LIOM PÁIRT A GHLACADH?IS FÉIDIR LEAT. Más rud é go bhfuil cúpla focal, Gaeilge bhriste nó go bhfuil Gaeilge líofa agat, beidh fáilte romhat. Is deis é seo do chairde ó ghairmeacha éagsúla a tharraingt le chéile chun táirge a chruthú agus pitseáil agus do scileanna forbairte a fhorbairt...IONTACH. It is similar to Dragons Den but the product is created on the day. People will be in teams of up to 5 people. It does not necessarily have to be about technology alone, participates are welcome to develop a concept or a tangible product. A hackathon is carried out within a time frame, this hackathon will be 7hrs long. At the end, people will present their product in front of the judges as a pitch and a team will be picked as the winner of the competition and of course will be presented with a prize!WHAT IS THE THEME AND VISION OF THIS HACKATHON ?There are a lot of people who speak Irish daily and a lot of people who want to use services as Gaeilge. The end goal is that there will be more services available in Irish that will strengthen the use of the language and would be useful in everyday life for Irish speakers. The challenge of this hackathon is to come up with a service as Gaeilge that is aimed at third level students. As mentioned above, this event is not just for coders and about technology but we presume there will be an element of technology associated with all the projects. I DON’T HAVE MUCH IRISH CAN I TAKE PART ?YES YOU CAN. Nobody will be judging you on your level of Irish so If you have broken Irish or are have fluent Irish or just have a cúpla focal we would love to see you there! At Least one person on the team must be able to speak Irish and the pitch will be in Irish so find your friend who speaks Gaeilge. Our team will be walking around who will be more than happy to help regarding Irish and also there are loads of great resources on the Internet.I CAN’T CODE CAN I TAKE PART ?YES YOU CAN. Everybody has different skills and in a competition like this they are all important. This is an opportunity for your friends from different professions to come together to create a product and pitch it while developing your development skills….GREAT. (If you don’t have a team you can get a team there on the day).EXAMPLE TEAM WITH A MIX OF PEOPLE:1)A PERSON STUDYING/STUDIED IRISH: This person will be helpful with the language and wording of the product. They have connections to Irish and know the needs of people who speak Irish (Usually this team member is good craic and is adaptable)2) A PERSON WITH COMPUTER SKILLS: The one with computer skills can come from any background but are likely to be a Computer Scientist or Engineer. This person is the link between Irish and the alien languages of code. Very useful and they work better in twos or more, they would do the whole development work if your product is based on technology.3) A PERSON WITH MARKETING SKILLS: This person will take a good idea to a great idea and will put money in your pocket at the end of the day. These are the people who want an enticing appearance on the product. They could deliver a killer pitch as Gaeilge and have a presentation ready to go with it.*N.B* - This is a free event with free food/refreshments provided on the day as well!TAR DON TAITHÍ, TAR DON GHAEILGE, TAR MAR IS É SEO FORBAIRT NA TOHDCHAÍBEIDH DUAISEANNA MAITHE ANN FREISIN ;)Feicfidh muid ann sibh! #HnaG19
