The idea is for people to take up arms in the ‘do-it-yourself’ bio-based experiment in an open environment with simple scientific method and lower cost equipment. Course Description In this pilot course, students will be exposed to basic concept of biotechnology and use their knowledge creatively to hack their way using materials that can be found around the house.   In this course, students will be introduced with Asking and answering question in biology Designing and conducting experiment Identify factors that might influence their experiment   Glowing Bacteria: Fresh from Market Scientist have been using bacteria to innovate since ancient times. In this session, kids will learn the tools use by scientist to extract, grow and manipulate bacteria. Kids will apply their new-found knowledge by extracting and growing glowing bacteria by their own from fresh squid bought from the market.   Students will be exposed to: -Using Petri Dish and Agar to grow bacteria -Extracting bacteria from daily surrounding items such as smartphone screen -Extracting glow in the dark bacteria from fresh squid   Power Up: Energy from Mud Renewable energy is one of the main focus in many fields of technology in this age. In this session, kids will learn the concept behind microbial fuel cell; a system to extract energy from bacterial respiration. Kids then will experience energy produced in a form of electrical current from mud using our microbial fuel cell system.   Students will be exposed to: -Understanding how electrical current is produced -Applying mud to the microbial fuel cell system to generate electric -Creatively hacking their way with the electrical energy produced in various ways.   Tools Requirement: All tools for experiment will be provided by us.   Safety Concerns All experiments conducted is known to be safe. However, protective equipment such as glove and mask will be provided.
