SAN DIEGO SMART GIGABIT COMMUNITIES REVERSE PITCH HACKATHON
15 Feb - 12:00 PM
San Diego, United States
San Diego Smart Gigabit Communities Reverse Pitch Hackathon In 2017, CyberTECH and Cleantech San Diego were proud to be selected by US Ignite as the innovation partners for the City of San Diego's Smart Gigabit Community Program. Part of the US Ignite program is to drive innovation in the community and build two-to-four applications each year that contribute toward the larger pool of applications from San Diego and other Smart Cities, now a total of 25 with more to come. So far, over 100 open-source applications have already been developed in the participating cities. One way that Smart Cities have successfully supported the development of these new applications is through the Reverse Pitch Hackathon. In this format, teams participate in a program that extends much longer than a typical weekend hackathon. The program’s goal is to obtain real-life applications that can be used by the City of San Diego and other Smart Cities and also, when feasible, to commercialize the applications on a wider basis. The first edition of San Diego’s US Ignite Smart Gigabit Reverse Pitch Hackathons will be held Thursday, Feb. 15 at NEST CoWork, 1855 First Avenue, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92101. This program aims to enhance San Diego's innovation ecosystem by accelerating the development and deployment of next-generation gigabit applications and services that run on advanced networks. Four “Reverse Pitch Problem Areas” will be matched with Hackathon team solutions, as follows:  Wireless Healthcare Climate Action City Permitting and Registration Public Safety  In addition, over the next three years, program participants will help develop six smart gigabit applications to address local priorities such as Smart City infrastructure, social services, healthcare, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence. Schedule: The competition concludes Thursday, June 28, the final day of San Diego Startup Week. The winner of the pitch competition will be invited to present their innovation at the Smart City Expo World Conference in Barcelona, Spain, Nov. 13-15. Also, on Thursday, March 15, a “Spotlight Pitch Night” competition will be held to judge applications that began in February, with the winner of that team invited to participate in the US Ignite National Smart Cities Conference & Expo in Kansas City, MO, March 28-29.Speaker and Panelists: Welcome: Jason Anderson, CEO CleanTech San Diego , Tristen Blake, Machine Learning Society  Fireside Chat:David Graham, Deputy Chief Operating Offcer, Neighborhood Services  Smart Gibabit City Panel:Darren Bennett, CISO, City of San DiegoErik Caldwell, Director of Economic Development Celeb Christianson, Head of Nano Robotics Lab, UCSD San Diego Smart Gigabit Communities Reverse Pitch Hackathon WHEN: Thursday, Feb. 15, 12 noon to 7:30 pmWHERE: NEST CoWork: Manpower Building, Bankers Hill 1855 First Avenue, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92101
