EL “smart city hackathon” es un evento donde los desarrolladores, emprendedores, diseñadores, profesores, investigadores y personas interesadas en el futuro de la tecnología en Puerto Rico, convergen en un ejercicio y un ambiente de colaboración para desarrollar proyectos para el municipio-laboratorio de Bayamón… todos guiados por un mismo norte – cómo hacer que el municipio pueda operar más eficientemente y al hacerlo, rendir mejores servicios a sus ciudadanos.  El vehículo a través del cual ésto se logra es el desarrollo de soluciones que hagan de Bayamón un lugar más eficiente e “inteligente” para la vida de sus habitantes. Este “hackathon” está diseñado para concretar y servir de plataforma para lanzar los esfuerzos de la ciudad de Bayamón dirigidos a convertirse en la primera ciudad inteligente de Puerto Rico, enfocándonos en los servicios y tecnologías que puedan rendir el mejor y más significativo impacto en la administración de los recursos de la ciudad y por consiguiente en las vidas de sus ciudadanos. Recuerda Traer tu Hardware : Arduino, Rapberry Pi, ESP8266, sensores etc. Reglas: Un máximo de cuatro(4) miembros por equipo de trabajo Al menos un 80% del código y/o diseño debe ser escrito y generado durante el “Hackathon” De querer incluir cualquier trabajo que haya sido creado antes de llegar al “Hackathon” en el proyecto que vayan a desarrollar en el evento, tienen que someter dicho trabajo al comité organizador del Hackathon para aprobación. (personal snippets, libraries, etc.) Todos los derechos de autor pertenecen al equipo de trabajo. We invite developers, designers and anyone else who wants to get involved, to come along, or take part remotely if you are unable to make it in person. Hackers, community leaders, non-profit organizations, designers, and entrepreneurs! Are you passionate about using technology to solve the pressing social problems of Puerto Rico? You're invited to sign up to participate in HACKEA POR UNA CAUSA -- a hackathon for non-profit organizations and beneficial causes. You'll collaborate to address one of a series of challenges faced by Puerto Rican non-profits. You'll be expected to help design an innovative solution that can help the non-profit organizations solve social problems and improve their service.

Compite en equipos interdisciplinarios con otros estudiantes de biología, ciencia de cómputos, estadísticas, matemáticas y salud pública en el primer Replicathon en la isla!  Un replicathon, similar a un hackathon, se caracteriza por ser una actividad de trabajo analítico y de programación para crear soluciones reales usando la tecnología. A diferencia de un hackathon tradicional, los equipos recibirán el mismo reto o problema: dos manuscritos científicos que llegaron a dos resultados diferentes utilizando los mismos datos. El fin es que el equipos interpreten los datos y presenten sus conclusiones. En un hackathon, normalmente la solución se realiza en forma de un App (una aplicación móvil o web). El replicathon requiere cola-boración interdisciplinaria entre los expertos en programación, los de análisis de datos, los del contexto (genómica en este caso).

What is Python? Python is a widely used, high-level programming language. It is referred to as general purpose, high-level programming language, meaning you can use Python to create essentially any type of program or software.  Why learn Python? Many believe Python to be the best introductory programming language. Depending on your career goals, Python may be the language to start with. With Python, You can automate workflows, create websites, and build desktop applications and games. In fact, demand for advanced Python framework developers (Gunicorn, Flask, Django) has exploded over the past few years at companies like Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr, YouTube, and Pinterest, to name a few. About the Workshop: This is a half-day introductory workshop. No prior knowledge in programming is needed.  Our instructor, Bryan Collazo and Teaching Assistants, Eric Santos and Ricardo Mercado, are rockstars! They recently won HackPR's hackathon and are very recognized in their fields. The workshop will be taught in Spanglish. Meaning that the instructor will speak in Spanish and the content/visual material will be in English. We will provide snacks and lots of coffee!
