17 Nov - 01:00 PM
Vienna, Austria
Social Storm is an on- and offline event where individuals from all across the world gather together during a 24-hour period to engage in a problem-solving simulation. Individuals work in a collaborative environment with cross-disciplinary teams of usually 6 members –  3 universities with 2 participants each, communicating online via Skype & co. Anyone with a socially aware or responsible mindset and a problem-solving aptitude is encouraged to participate. Programme: 1:00 pm Check-In 2:00 pm Competition launch 3:00 pm - 12:00pm (Nov18th) Team allocation, concept building, mentor panel, project development, team time, pitching practise... 12:00 pm Submission of video presentation 1:00 pm Wrap up & end of competition            The winners will be announced a few days after the event.  What types of problems and solutions? This year focuses on #11 and #13 of the Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Cities and Communities & Climate Action. The solution proposals can be of any type: Initiative, business, NGO, project, whatever comes to your mind. Important is that you clearly show, how your solution solves the problem in an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable way. Everybody can participate! Social Storm focuses on socially minded individuals who are looking to solve global social issues and “positively impact the world”. We pride ourselves on connecting high talent, but rather young and untapped individuals with one another. If you like to show commitment in a multi-cultural team, are familiar with English and curious about 24h of limited rest but unlimited possibilities, this is the right event for you. Students as well as graduates and practicioners of all kinds are welcome. Participation is free and no previous knowledge is required. We do expect commitment, though. What is a ‘Hackathon’? A traditional hackathon is an event in which programmers, coders and designers are brought together for a short amount of time to work together, collaboratively on intense software projects. The term hackathon has since been adapted and used for a variety of types of events in order to demonstrate the short term intensive nature of the event. At Social Storm you’ll not code, but brainstorm, develop concepts, do online research etc. You’ll have 24h to create a promising solution tackling one of the two SDGs with your team and submit it as a video presentation. This does not mean you are awake or working for 24 straight hours, more that you have a start and an end time; what you do with that time is up to you. Social Storm provides you with a lot of content and help during that time. Registration Deadline: November 14, 12pm Thanks to our partners WU Gründungszentrum and INiTS for the support!
