What is a Hackathon? A hackathon is a gathering where programmers collaboratively code in an extreme manner over a short period of time. Hackathons are at least a few days - or over a weekend - and generally no longer than a week. While working on particular projects, the idea is for each developer to have the ability and freedom to work on whatever he/she wants and structured projects for commercialization. A hackathon is also known as a hack-fest or hack day. 053 Hack Overview The 053 Hackathon (053HACK) is a local hackathon aimed at digitalizing Kimberley and turning it into a smart competitive city and in the process stimulate and develop Information Communication Technology and tech-entrepreneurship. The hackathon is championed and hosted by local tech-entrepreneurs and it aims to attract software developers, computer programmers, data scientist, graphic designers, web developers, technologist and tech-entrepreneurs within and around the city of Kimberley. The 053 Hack also aims to develop digital innovative solutions to make the city more productive and give it a technological competitive advantage. 053 Hack Objectives Promote tech entrepreneurship Commercialize digital solutions Explore artificial intelligence, virtual reality, robotics, and other technologies 053 Hack Layout The theme of this year's 053 Hackathon is "Advancing with ArtiBcial Intelligence". The focus is on commercializing digital solutions that can contribute to digitalizing the city and developing the local digital economy. The 053 Hackathon will cover master class sessions, teamwork leadership activities and presentations to judges.
