Hackathon Challenge - Alder Hey Challenge - Gaming/Computing Challenge   Launch Day -  1st November 2018 (10am - 5pm) Presentation and final day - 21st November 2018 (2pm - 4pm)  Tech Hub You are invited to participate with this amazing opportunity to work with Alder Hey and a chance to contribute to their up and coming project. Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Charity are working together to create a world first, hospital-wide patient experience app that has the potential to revolutionise patient care across the NHS. The ‘Alder Play’ app is set to totally transform the experience of children in hospital by bringing comfort, fun, reward and distraction to young patients, whilst also providing vital information to both them and their parents and carers. Alder Play will feature gaming and augmented reality, providing entertainment but also much needed distraction for patients having procedures. A rewards scheme will also be used to encourage interacting with the app and rewarding patients for co-operating with their treatment. It will also have a digital map and detailed 360 images of the hospital enabling patients to explore and familiarise themselves with before their visit. The app has been built by a London based developer ustwo, who have created an amazing interface that is now being tested within Alder Hey. We have been fortunate to have content for the app donated by a number of sponsors, including Hasbro, FACT, Jungle Interactive and StudioWide, a Liverpool based digital company. The Challenge Alder Hey would like to extend the invitation to Edge Hill  Computer Science students.  During the challenge you will work in teams of 5 to produce a range of games for children of primary school age.  Your team will be given the overall theme and categories on the morning of the challenge. Machine learning, data science, and data analytics techies in and around Sheffield! You're invited to participate in The Rolls-Royce Manufacturing Hackathon. You'll be challenged to design and build an artificial intelligence (AI) solution that automates inspection, trend detection and measurement adjustments in the inspection process of aero-engine manufacture. Collaborate and compete to win the £10,000 first prize.

Purpose:  The ambition is to bring the open source culture in to the act of building a Smart City in Sheffield. This is about being open and inclusive and no matter what your skill level to help you play a valuable role in building technology that benefits Sheffielders. How the Hackathon works:  The Sheffield Hackspace (Sheffield Hardware, Hackers & Makers – SHH&M) will run a monthly hackathon around Smart City technology for a trial period of 6 months and with a view to extending and expanding if demand is proven. The first hackathon will be on Sunday April 15th (11.00am to 4.00pm).  There won’t be a hackathon in August (holiday season), making the final hackathon due in September 2018. There will be some projects that groups work on and some projects individuals work on. Participants will have access to people with know-how, various equipment and a lab-like environment to work in. We don’t want to impose our agenda so in Hackathon #1 (i.e. 15th April) we will explore how do you want this to work? We expect the 6 hackathons to focus on The Things Network (https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/ ) Gateways and Nodes, as well as Sensors, Apps, IoT Services etc, all to be agreed on the 15th April. Cost:  Hackathon attendance is free to existing members of Sheffield Hardware Hackers & Makers. Hackathon attendance for non-SHH members costs £6 and enables you to visit one of the weekly Special Interest Group (SIG) of your choice and access a drop-in session that runs on alternating Saturdays in the month you attended. This is payable at the door. The first of the UK's ZenME events. Gathering busy professionals together to explore the Resilience Principles and well being skills and attributes. Based upon Egyptian adversity and rules of survival. This workshop will be the first step into self- coaching and a co- worker coaching environment. We are including a self- worth hackathon and we have a guest speaker that will be sharing how she turned trauma into something extraodinary.  This is an Introductory offer and will resume to full price in September.

The Digital and Creative team are delighted to invite you to our ‘e-Buddy Hackathon’ | Saturday 7th July, 10am – 4pm As a part of your induction to Oldham College we would like to offer you the opportunity to attend an exclusive event supported by Barclays Bank and Microsoft’s Digital Accessibility Teams. “A hackathon is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.” For this event, we aim to ‘Hack’ a student’s first week at College, to see how we can use technology and YOUR innovative thinking to improve and simplify the experience of studying at a new location! This will also be a fantastic opportunity to learn how large Blue Chip organisations such as Microsoft and Barclays are harnessing technology and inclusive design principles to transform the customer experience for EVERYONE, ensuring that NO ONE is left behind in a rapidly changing world. EMIS Health build software solutions to support patients, like you and me, live longer healthier lives.   Tech in healthcare is huge at the moment, there are so many new and interesting apps and tools that can support the vision of providing better patient experience when travelling their healthcare journey.   On the 23rd of June at 08:00AM we're kick starting “CodeLife” - our very own Hackathon, inviting people from across the North to join us for 14 hours of pure tech talk and on the spot innovation!  You will be in teams of 4 or 5 (bring your own team or we can team you up) and the day will run from 08:00 - 22:00 and will include Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for those taking part. It’s a points means prizes day with the topic of choice being "social media vs healthcare" - focusing on current and upcoming technologies. Use your knowledge of social media to prototype an app or tool that could benefit patients in healthcare.  As it’s a long day we will be providing free transport back to the centre of Manchester and then onto Leeds City Centre.  What’s expected of you on the day?  Eat our food  Enjoy yourself  Design/prototype us some software that will support healthcare using any technology and showcase it at the end of the day in front of our panel.  Bring your own laptop and any other supporting technologies. We will provide Internet access and power, as well as the odd Azure server if needed.  You will be in a team. Points means prizes…    The bulk of the day will allow you to focus on the prototype as this will be awarded the most points. There will be other challenges on the day including SQL, Infrastructure, UI/UX and many more.
