How can entrepreneurs collaborate to maximise their impact?
12 Feb - 07:00 PM
London, United Kingdom
A better world depends upon our ability to generate new ideas and build new systems that can better channel human, social and financial efforts towards the SDGs. Entrepreneurs are essential to this. They are key to creating the innovations that will enable us to go beyond and reach the SDGs with the resources we have.
Every other month at Second Home Spitalfields, we bring together entrepreneurs – both aspiring and established - investors, sustainability professionals, students, and academics to consider the role entrepreneurs play in meeting different elements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This Event
For this special speaker event, in-between a collaborative SDGeneration hackathon and conference, we thought it would be especially fitting to focus on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
SDG 17 calls on us to “Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development”.
In this event we ask, how we can create a collaborative entrepreneurial ecosystem in the UK and beyond to maximise our impact, deliver on the UN SDGs and ensure our long-term ability to flourish?
Our Speakers:
Jude Ower MBE, Founder and CEO of Playmob - Playmob supports brands creating a fairer world, through games that are aligned to the SDGs. Playmobdevelop branded playable ads which not only teach players about global issues but nudge behaviour to be part of the solution. They are creating serious impact results by combining profit, purpose and playfulness
Rowan Finnegan, Co-founder of The Conduit - The Conduit embodies the notion of collaboration, serving as a home for a diverse community of social entrepreneurs, investors, creatives, business leaders, policy-makers and civil society. It is a catalytic platform for tackling some of the most pressing challenges facing us today.
Kate Wolfenden, Co-founder of Project X - Project X is a systems optimisation focused initiative that enables entire industries to make difficult shifts in their sustainability agenda together. The goal of this programme is to shift $1.3 trillion in purchasing power from unsustainable sources to sustainable sources by 2030.
Danny Witter, Co-founder of Work For Good - A profit with purpose online platform that facilitates business giving. They work in partnership with businesses to design and embed charitable donations to drive business growth and scale social impact.

About Fast Forward 2030
Fast Forward 2030 is a network and platform of entrepreneurs who believe that in order to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), entrepreneurs need to incorporate them into their business models.
Why the UN SDGs?
There are 17 SDGs with 169 targets - but don’t let this put you off. They are the first comprehensive plan for the whole of humanity to flourish within the means of the planet. This makes them a good framework for people who want to have an impact. They also set a direct challenge to the private sector by insisting that the environmental and social impact of the way we do business can no longer be an afterthought. They need to be at the very heart of how, and why our economies and businesses function. Fast Forward 2030 exists to encourage and inspire businesses that embody this.
The Institute for Global Prosperity
The Institute for Global Prosperity was launched in 2014 to develop a boader notion of prosperity for a sustainable and prosperous future. For more details on the MSc in Global Prosperity, PhDs, or our short courses in entrepreneurship, click here.

The Plexal story so far
Plexal was officially opened by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan in June 2017 and in a very short space of time we've filled up with amazing businesses and hosted hackathons, conferences, launches and meetups.
In 2018, we launched Plexiglass: an accelerator to help female-founded startups scale.
And in June 2018, we were hugely proud to launch LORCA (the London Office for Rapid Cybersecurity Advancement), which will see Plexal run bespoke, six-month programmes for the country's top cybersecurity companies over three years.

If you’re driving, you can pay for a space in the car park located next door at Here East.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Beyond- a Workshop for Manufacturers
12 Feb - 01:00 PM
,
What Is It?
An introductory workshop on Building Information Modelling (BIM), the bigger picture of digitalisation, and how this can benefit BCFA members and their customers.
Workshop Programme
Building Information Modelling for The Manufacturer
BIM from a manufacturer’s perspective - how this has evolved, and why manufacturers have a significant role to play in the construction industry making a shift to digital.
Why Specifying Your Products Should Be as Easy as Buying a New TV
Exploring the impact of consumer trends on building product selection, and how and why we should be aiming to deliver an experience which looks more like eCommerce.
So What Data Should Manufacturers Share?
To facilitate a digital built environment, manufacturer data needs to travel. That is why products need a digital passport. A structured format that gives all the important information in a way understood by everyone (even machines).
Q&A
Networking
Who Should Attend: This workshop is ideal for those companies taking their first steps in implementing Building Information Modelling (BIM) and will provide the understanding that will allow you to plan for the effective implementation of BIM across your company and products.
Workshop Leaders
Craig Sewell - Consultant (Manufacturing)
Craig has fourteen years of experience working with construction product manufacturers in the UK and abroad. His mission is to help manufacturers use digital technologies to transform their business to add value for both themselves and their customers. Since 2011, Building Information Modelling has been a big part of Craig’s digital vision for manufacturers. Craig has overseen business transformations from 2D to 3D, the creation of model content and, the optimisation of the design-to-manufacture process through better information management. Alongside supporting the BIM4M2 Education Group and UK BIM Alliance Product Data Group, Craig is currently working as an independent consultant to help manufacturers develop their digital strategy.
Darren Lester - CEO (SpecifiedBy)
After training as an Architectural Technologist in Edinburgh, Darren founded SpecifiedBy.com in 2013 to help architects and specifiers to research building products and materials more efficiently. Since then, the platform has grown to over 50,000 users per month and has been supported by some of the UK's leading technology investors. Darren also co-organises Hack Construct - hackathon events designed to explore the use of digital technologies and business models in the construction industry.

SDGeneration: Hackathon for the UN SDGs
12 Feb - 08:30 AM
London, United Kingdom
The Institute for Global Prosperity (IGP), UCL and the London International Development Centre (LIDC), are hosting a joint hackathon led by Darshita Gillies CEO and Co-Founder of Maanch.
Are we prepared for 2030?
This event will galvanise youth energy in the UK and Commonwealth nations on delivering and monitoring progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In particular, we have identified four interrelated and mission-critical SDGs as pivotal to realising sustainable prosperity: SDG 2 Zero Hunger, SDG 4 Quality Education, SDG 8 Decent work and SDG 11 Sustainable cities and communities.
We plan to use these four SDGs as the basis for our global city hackathon to give participants a deep understanding of current statuses, implementing partners, funders, and strategies to inspire SDG attainment generally, and specifically with a youth lens.
The challenge
1) Analyse UN Data to understand where London is positioned with regard to the 4 mission critical interrelated SDGs.
2) Hack solutions for progress towards goals 2, 4, 8 & 11 in a global city of your teams choosing, and present strategies to the group.
The hackathon intends to initiate cross cultural learning and collaboration among the international student community.
Eligibility
Everyone with passion for finding sustainable development solutions is encouraged to apply to this Hackathon. We encourage diversity (gender, skill sets, backgrounds, both professionals and university students, etc.).
You do not need to have technical skills to participate. We encourage diverse backgrounds to apply, including open source developers, graphic designers, product managers, researchers, data analysts, civic innovators, subject matter experts in the fields of health, education, poverty alleviation, social change, environment, and other community services, etc.
Participation in the Hackathon is free
Why the UN SDGs?
There are 17 SDGs with 169 targets. To realise the SDGs it is estimated that the world will need to invest between 7-10% of global annual GDP per year.
But don’t let this put you off!
The SDGs are also the first comprehensive plan for the whole of humanity to flourish within the means of the planet. This makes them a good framework for creative solutions to global challenges that have environmental and social impact at their core.
Why attend?
