FISH Meets Medicine Hackathon
18 Sep - 10:30 AM
Liverpool, United Kingdom
Event details
The Faculties Innovative Students Hub (FISH) is a space for University of Liverpool students to come together, form interdisciplinary teams and create solutions to real-world problems.
This 'FISH Meets Medicine Hackathon' will allow physicists, medics, engineers, computer scientists and chemists to work together to solve problems, specifically in the field of medicine.
The two day event includes inspiring talks from clinicians who will deliver problems that require solving, and who can work with student teams on their suggested projects. It is a great opportunity for students to develop their creative, technical and presentation skills, not forgetting that lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided!
Who should attend?
We are looking for both students and clinicians to get involved.
Clinicians are able to submit problems which should be solvable by a team of STEM undergraduate students. We know things can get busy, so the amount of involvement is up to you. You could just attend the event to outline your problem or, ideally, you would become an active member of the team and provide feedback on the solutions as they are being developed.
Students attending will be able to apply their knowledge to discuss, brainstorm and solve real world problems in teams. The teams who identify the solution will maintain intellectual property rights to that solution.

'Free Your Mind' Hackathon with Code Nation, EMIS Health and Mind
01 Jun - 10:00 AM
,
Free Your Mind Hackathon, with Code Nation and EMIS Health
Code Nation and EMIS Health are focussed on digital innovation, creating real solutions to real problems. Inspired by EMIS Health’s charity partner Mind we’re launching our ‘Free Your Mind’ Hackathon on Saturday 1st June, and we hope to do just that.
Here’s what EMIS have to say about this amazing project …
“We want to be ahead of the game; eager to find, design, test and support ground-breaking ideas in the world of healthcare, ensuring we can enable patients to live longer and healthier lives.
We’re also a caring bunch - we’re aware of our potential impact on the healthcare sector, on each other and within the workplace. As a business we are proud to partner with Mind as our official charity partner, who help us to champion the importance of mental health and wellbeing.
We’ve created this Hackathon because we want to provide our expert knowledge and insight in healthcare software, to support the need for more digital innovation around mental health and wellbeing”.
What is the aim?
This hackathon will give participants the chance to explore the ever-expanding role of AI and chatbots, the potential to monitor Social Media feeds and the ability to utilise the capabilities of SmartHome devices to raise alarms or escalate a potential crisis.
Our main aim is for our participants to have fun whilst realising that technology has the power to transform the way we treat mental health problems.
This all-day Hackathon will consist of 3 ‘candidates’ to work on throughout the event, plus a number of amazing workshops with industry leaders and inspirational figures - all will be revealed soon!
How can I get involved?
You can either enter a team of six, or sign-up independently and be assigned a team upon arrival. Whilst all those taking part should be technically minded, we encourage each team to be cross-functional – so whether you work in design, product or development you will have an important role to play. This event will also be open to internal participants too from both Code Nation and EMIS Health.
We look forward to seeing you there! And on behalf of Code Nation and EMIS Health - thank you in advance for your support with our project.
