High tech businesses, innovators, designers, data scientists, coders and business strategists! If you're interested in rail transportation, then you're invited to participate in the HS2 Hackathon. You'll be challenged to come up with an innovative new idea that will help deliver the High Speed 2 infrastructure project. Working on a team of up to five people, you'll collaborate to explore how technologies such as wearable technology, machine learning, and virtual reality might help key aspects of the HS2 project, including staff safety, customer experience, maintenance operations and community impact.

Designers, developers, and AI enthusiasts in and around Milton Keynes! Festive Road -- the Milton Keynes based art foundation -- invites you to participate in the MK Hackathon 2017. You'll be challenged to design and prototype an innovative tool -- front or back-end -- that will help simplify the searching and classification of photos.

De Montfort University in Leicester, England, is holding a Text Hackathon from 12.30pm on Friday 10 November to 12.30pm on Sunday 12 November 2017, at its Eric Wood Learning Zone. Everyone who is interested in searching and analysing large bodies of digital text is welcome to come. All levels of ability and all ages are welcome and will be catered for, from those who know nothing about this topic to those who study it and those who teach it and research it. Free high-quality food--with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and coeliac options--will be served throughout the event. HackNotts is a 24 hour Hackathon hosted at the University of Nottingham. In October this year we will be returning for our fourth year! Join us for a weekend of hacking and fun in the stunning Jubilee Campus. But what is going to happen at the event? Over the 24 hours, people aged 16+ of all skill levels (you don't have to be a professional or a student! Just be lovely, passionate and interested in tech!) will come together to share ideas, and create new and awesome projects! (Not sure what a hackathon is? MLH have a great explanation here). There'll also be fun minigames, challenges and free food/drink to make sure you have an absolutely wonderful time. What should I bring? Apart from yourself, you will also need to bring laptops, chargers and some spare clothes if you want to sleep. Please note that all attendees will be subject to the MLH Code of Conduct.   HackTheMidlands 2.0 is a 24-hour, inclusive hackathon being hosted in Birmingham on the 23rd/24th September 2017 at Millennium Point. We're super excited to be back for our 2nd iteration, and we'd love to have y'all join us!  But what is going to happen at the event?   Over the 24 hours, people aged 14+ of all skill levels (you don't have to be a professional or a student! Just be lovely, passionate and interested in tech!) will come together to share ideas, and create new and awesome projects! (Not sure what a hackathon is? MLH have a great explanation here). There'll also be fun minigames, challenges and free food/drink to make sure you have an absolutely wonderful time. But I don't have any experience - I won't be any good!    Nonsense - Everyone has to start somewhere, and we will have mentors at the event to help you along. One of the most awesome qualities of hackathons is the sheer number of lovely people that you'll meet at them, so no matter your skill level or expertise, you'll always be able to have an awesome time, pick up loads of new skills, and make new friends!  

Next Thursday 21st September, the University of Sheffield is the first partner in Siemens investment in a new multi-million pound network. The MindSphere Innovation Network (MINe) will link businesses with UK and global universities to exploit opportunities in the Industrial Internet of Things. As part of the launch there will be demonstrations of how the IIoT can make a difference and how data from the campus can be made available in teaching. Come to the MindSphere Lounge in the Diamond and sign up for free MindSphere training and the chance to register for a hackathon with Siemens later in the year.  And if you have new ideas for how the Industrial Internet of Things can be disruptive then Siemens will be offering a prize for the best ideas and have staff on hand to answer your questions.
