We’ll be spending Saturday and Sunday the 15 & 16th building, testing, and launching tech to improve democracy, and the effectiveness of government. What is a Hackathon? Hyper Island x Impact Hub Hackathon 2020 - Solutions for your business challenges
              15 Feb - 09:00 AM
              , United Kingdom
We have teamed up with one of our anchor team members, Hyper Island, to deliver a Social Good Hackathon for our members and wider impact community in February 2020. Hyper Island design transformative learning experiences to enable growth for individuals and for businesses. They have solved problems using such innovative solutions for a range of companies, including the BBC, Farmdrop, Vans, Addidas, Volvo and Manchester City.  During the Hackathon weekend, Hyper Island students and alumni will listen to your briefs, i.e. problem statements and form teams to find solutions to the challenge you are facing. Each team will look at one problem, which also means that your challenge might be solved by different teams who have entirely different ideas. At the end of the weekend, the Hyper Island teams will present their innovative solutions. What is the cost of the event There is no cost for Impact Hub King’s Cross members. However, if your selection is confirmed, but you do not show up on the date or cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be charged a £50 fee.  The ticket price for non-members is £50.  Will I need to be there for the entire weekend No! You will only need to come at the beginning for approximately an hour to present your brief to the teams of solvers. It will also be helpful if you are available to respond to questions remotely at certain points during the weekend. Finally, you will be expected to be present on the Sunday afternoon for around three hours when the teams present their solutions.  Why should I participate This is an amazing opportunity to hear potentially several different solutions to challenges that your business faces. The solutions are expected to be creative, innovative and easy to implement.  An employee of Volvo Group said about a similar event: ““What an amazing buzz! Volvo x Hyper Island Hack Sprint 2018 finished with a bang. So proud of all Hyper Island students and big thanks to the Volvo Group judges. 250 Hyper Island students really showed Volvo Group why they are considered among the most talented! #innovation #hackathon” Who can join Any of our impact-focused members that are facing an actual problem with their business. We will not accept briefs from businesses that are still at the ideation stage. Before buying your spot, make sure you complete the submission form.  Deadline  The deadline for submitting your briefs is the 15th January 2020. Please note that after completing the submission form  What briefs can you submit There are not any significant restrictions on the type of briefs you can submit. However, there is no guarantee you will be selected. The briefs will be chosen based on the quality and detail provided on the challenge, the ability for the Hyper Island teams to address it and the impact such solution will have to your operations and your beneficiaries. After you complete the submission form, the Hyper Island team will arrange a meeting where you will co-create your brief. On the date, you are expected to present your brief along with a deck that introduces your business and industry. Some examples of briefs are shown below: From a company tackling homelessness: “Re-employment of people with lived experience of homelessness is challenging, with multiple barriers to people finding, securing and sustaining work opportunities. Whilst the third and public sector have solid solutions and support services in place to see people back into employment, personal issues experienced by the individuals in question, workplace cultural challenges and limited opportunities impact success rates. How can we improve the systemic, cultural and personal process to enable those people looking for gainful employment to find their success story?” Volvo Hack Sprint 2018  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1Xq6sqTts
