Hackathon: Tax and fintech for the vulnerable
19 Mar - 08:00 AM
London, United Kingdom
What role does tax play in safeguarding the most financially vulnerable in society? Tolley and LexisNexis invites you to a one-day hackathon to explore how fintech and tax technology can be used to support those that are least likely to have access to professional support. We recognise that trying to navigate one of the most complex tax systems in the world without professional help leads to overpaying tax, under-utilising benefits and cases where individuals are targeted for fraud. When and where is it? Join us on 19 March 2020 at Lexis House in our full-day hackathon where you’ll work in teams to come up with creative solutions to tricky problems. Who can take part? This hackathon is an open event. We believe solving complex social issues requires individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills and experiences. On the day we hope to bring together those with skills in software engineering, design, product and tax expertise but we also want great communicators who can pitch in front of audiences, craft compelling marketing messages, facilitate workshops and so much more. You can take part in this hackathon whether you have technical or non-technical skills. So, if you’re not a software developer, that’s ok. There will be activities you can help with including contributing ideas, challenging groupthink, facilitating mini workshops and much more. Do I need to bring anything? Bring your own device and we'll take care of the rest including WiFi, access to cloud services and food and drinks throughout the day. Schedule (subject to change): 8.00am – registration and networking breakfast9.00am – hackathon briefing9.30am – forming teams and making a start1:00pm – Lunch6.00pm – pitch and demo playback7.00pm – judging panel and winners announced7.30pm – drinks networking

            Legal Tech Hackathon
            06 Mar - 05:00 PM
            London, United Kingdom
Following the resounding success of our first Hackathon in November 2019, Office & Dragons, Barclays Eagle Labs, Extropy.io, and Indorse are excited to announce our second Legal Tech Hackathon hosted at the Barclays LawTech Eagle Lab at Notting Hill Gate, London. The hackathon will take place on 06 - 08 March. For those new to hackathons, a hackathon is a competition, usually held over the course of a couple days, between small teams of business people and software developers to develop a product, service or platform that addresses a specific challenge and a business pitch for bringing it to market. The developers create an architecture and a prototype of the technology, while the business people make a pitch deck. The event culminates in a pitch competition before a panel of judges, who score the pitches along the challenge criteria and select a winner. Each team's technology is scored by a technical expert before the pitches, and this is factored into their overall score. Throughout the competition, talks and workshops are often held, through which the participants can learn more about the subject of the challenge -- in our case, legal services and lawtech. Our hackathon will join legal industry professionals and software developers and challenge them to create novel solutions to real-world challenges faced by lawyers, clients, and other stakeholders within the legal justice system, using bleeding edge technologies like Blockchain and AI. Additional sponsors and prizes will be announced in due course. Space is limited, so request your ticket now! Participant in the hackathon is by selection. A ticket does not guarantee a space to participate. We will notify the final participants separately by email. More detials below and coming soon: Challenge To find creative solutions to challenges faced in the legal industry, including problems involving workflow management, streamlining data aggrigation, customer interactions, and access to justice.  Participants and teams 40 total participants: 20 from legal industry and 20 software developers, grouped into 10 even teams of 4 people.
