The University of Bradford is hosting an open data hackathon for developing prototype tools using the health related open data sets provided by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC), for measuring the level of isolation among communities and individuals in oder to calculate which groups could be at risk of becoming socially excluded. Prizes will be awarded for the best and most innovative prototypes of the day.

On behalf of Computing At School and the Network of Excellence   GCSE Computing Hackathon  07/11/2015 10.00am - 2:00pm Harrogate Grammar School   This is a unique event for all teachers of GCSE Computing.  It is an opportunity to work together to find solutions to difficult programming tasks.  PROGRAMME (STC) The aim of the day is to boost teacher’s confidence in the delivery of GCSE programming tasks. We have access to PC’s running Python 3.1, VB.Net and C#. Alternatively, there is a range of Raspberry Pi’s and guest Wi-Fi if you would prefer to BYOD. For teachers new to GCSE Computing there will be support and parallel workshops, if required. The cost for the day is £25 and includes lunch. You must be authorised by your school to work on any live material SPEAKER Daniel Toms Dan Toms is the Lead Teacher of computing at Harrogate Grammar School and a CAS Master Teacher. He has taught A-level computing for over ten years and OCR GCSE since it was piloted. As a Master Teacher Dan has been mentoring school's introducing computing courses and running CPL across the region to improve pedagogy at all key stages.       What?- We'll be holding a panel event, complete with Q&A, networking (games) and nibbles. The panel will feature 8 people from a diverse set of Science, Technology,Engineering and Maths (STEM) careers. Where? - We'll be at Campus North's offices in Newcastle. Full address is Campus North, Sunco House, 5 Carliol Square, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 6UF. When? - We'll be there at 6.00pm to start and hope to be finished by 8.00pm latest. Here's what happened one of the times we ran a panel event: YouTube   There are amazing women in the UK's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) fields, but a lack of females rising to take their place in STEM. This diverse panel will be sharing their unusual STEM career paths and giving some top tips to current STEM students considering their options after school, college or university.  The event is open to all and promises to provide a fantastic opportunity to meet and network with real STEM professionals and discover new opportunities, all over light refreshments in a relaxed atmosphere. This event is sponsored and hosted by Tech North and Campus North       About the Stemettes - We run panel events, hackathons, workshops, exhibitions and a mentoring scheme for girls from 4 years old right up to female university students.
