    African Healthcare Hackathon 2020
      21 Feb - 06:00 PM
      London , United Kingdom
The 2020 African Healthcare Hackathon will be an intense, fun and high energy competition event for people passionate about creating something brilliant. Anyone can take part and form teams to brainstorm and develop solutions for big organizations and initiatives doing work in Africa. In the end, the team with the best solution wins! Anyone with a passion for creating brilliant stuff can take part. Be brilliant for what matters!   >>>>Watch short recap videos of previous years here, here and here and read below to find out more!   What is it? Typically, a hackathon (a tech buzzword) is a competitive type of event where teams collaborate and compete against each other to come up with the best solutions to a defined problem in a very short time frame (~24 hours). We instead are having all kinds of interesting people (not just 'techies') compete to come up with solutions for African Healthcare initiatives. After the Friday evening kick-off event, teams will have the weekend to work on a challenge that a business/organization faces in Africa. The team that presents the best solution as determined by expert judges will win the competition. Is it for you? The Challenge is a great and really fun way to use your unique talents to affect positive change in the world. Great ideas push the world forward. And they can come from anywhere. This event will bring together healthcare clinicians, programmers, scientists, business professionals, students and researchers who are passionate about improving things in Africa and supporting big organizations to solve their challenges. You will not be expected to be an expert in the healthcare industry in Africa. You are someone that thinks a little bit different from everyone else and has the ability to solve problems with a little ingenuity. Techies and non-techies will get involved. Medical and non-medical people are welcome. Community workers, developers, entrepreneurs, artists, educators, business professionals, students, everyday people and more! We’ve learned that teams with people from different backgrounds come up with REALLY great ideas and form relationships that last beyond the weekend Do I need to come with a team? No, it's not 100% necessary. If you don’t have a team now, don’t worry. We will have team formation processes before things kick-off.  The competition is about more than just thinking up good ideas for leading African healthcare organizations. You’ll experience how to work (or compete!) with colleagues and friends on the Continent as well as dreaming and building, failing and finishing in rapid time. The Kopfadeyemi Community is built around opportunities to work with emerging African Healthcare organizations and future leaders on really interesting challenges. Make change happen with your ideas. What do I need to bring? You might want to bring your own computer or mobile device(s), Entrepreneur First do not provide computers or laptops. We will provide high-speed Wi-Fi, power strips, whiteboards, and plenty of caffeine!  Is this an overnight competition / ‘hackathon’? No, but it can be if teams really want it to be. The competition starts right after the Friday evening kick-off. Entrepreneur First will be open at all times during the weekend and people are welcome to work through the night if they really want to! The complexity of the challenges is unlikely to be so high that people will have to stay up all night(!) Which organizations are taking part? In the past we've had organizations like UNICEF, MSF, AMREF and Age International involved, making sure we always put forward an interesting range of challenges. Specific details, including schedule and the judging process will be provided to those who register and are selected to participate. Pitch session  If you don't want to participate but are interested to hear the ideas that come out (or support your family/friends who have participated), get your pitch night ticket!  Timetable Friday 6.00pm:  Drinks begins at Entrepreneur First, London 7.00pm:  Challenge Presentation  7.30pm:  Teams form/register to challenges and HACKATHON officially begins!! 10.30pm: Suggested Day 1 end   Saturday 9.00 am:  Suggested Day 2 start 1.30 pm:  Challenge Checkpoints – Teams to briefly feedback to wider group on plans 10.30 pm:  Suggested Day 2 end   Sunday 9.00 am:  Suggested Day 3 start 2.00 pm:  HACKATHON deadline. Hyper Island x Impact Hub Hackathon 2020 - Solutions for your business challenges
                  15 Feb - 09:00 AM
                  United Kingdom
We have teamed up with one of our anchor team members, Hyper Island, to deliver a Social Good Hackathon for our members and wider impact community in February 2020. Hyper Island design transformative learning experiences to enable growth for individuals and for businesses. They have solved problems using such innovative solutions for a range of companies, including the BBC, Farmdrop, Vans, Addidas, Volvo and Manchester City.  During the Hackathon weekend, Hyper Island students and alumni will listen to your briefs, i.e. problem statements and form teams to find solutions to the challenge you are facing. Each team will look at one problem, which also means that your challenge might be solved by different teams who have entirely different ideas. At the end of the weekend, the Hyper Island teams will present their innovative solutions. What is the cost of the event There is no cost for Impact Hub King’s Cross members. However, if your selection is confirmed, but you do not show up on the date or cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be charged a £50 fee.  The ticket price for non-members is £50.  Will I need to be there for the entire weekend No! You will only need to come at the beginning for approximately an hour to present your brief to the teams of solvers. It will also be helpful if you are available to respond to questions remotely at certain points during the weekend. Finally, you will be expected to be present on the Sunday afternoon for around three hours when the teams present their solutions.  Why should I participate This is an amazing opportunity to hear potentially several different solutions to challenges that your business faces. The solutions are expected to be creative, innovative and easy to implement.  An employee of Volvo Group said about a similar event: ““What an amazing buzz! Volvo x Hyper Island Hack Sprint 2018 finished with a bang. So proud of all Hyper Island students and big thanks to the Volvo Group judges. 250 Hyper Island students really showed Volvo Group why they are considered among the most talented! #innovation #hackathon” Who can join Any of our impact-focused members that are facing an actual problem with their business. We will not accept briefs from businesses that are still at the ideation stage. Before buying your spot, make sure you complete the submission form.  Deadline  The deadline for submitting your briefs is the 15th January 2020. Please note that after completing the submission form  What briefs can you submit There are not any significant restrictions on the type of briefs you can submit. However, there is no guarantee you will be selected. The briefs will be chosen based on the quality and detail provided on the challenge, the ability for the Hyper Island teams to address it and the impact such solution will have to your operations and your beneficiaries. After you complete the submission form, the Hyper Island team will arrange a meeting where you will co-create your brief. On the date, you are expected to present your brief along with a deck that introduces your business and industry. Some examples of briefs are shown below: From a company tackling homelessness: “Re-employment of people with lived experience of homelessness is challenging, with multiple barriers to people finding, securing and sustaining work opportunities. Whilst the third and public sector have solid solutions and support services in place to see people back into employment, personal issues experienced by the individuals in question, workplace cultural challenges and limited opportunities impact success rates. How can we improve the systemic, cultural and personal process to enable those people looking for gainful employment to find their success story?” Volvo Hack Sprint 2018  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV1Xq6sqTts
