      On this prestigious day, will dedicate a full day on the 25th of November for new ideas and solutions to help the communities facing social decline in Greater Manchester. We intend to end the day with an esteemed judging panel who will evaluate the best ideas presented and these will in turn make our new projects to be implemented for the year. Several mentors and trained facilitators will be posted to each group of participants to ensure a day of enriching learning to complement the healthy competition. Food and refreshment will be provided throughout the day. As observers of our presentation rounds, you will have the chance to witness potentially revolutionary ideas that will transform the lives of the underprivileged and the faces of the next generation of aspiring entrepreneurs.           Hack The North - DWP Digital Hackathon

          The challenge for our hack is to identify and address the barriers to people applying for these jobs, and develop an innovative solution to encourage people to retrain and travel to where the work is. We'll kick things off on Thurs 23/11 from 4pm, when we'll set the scene through some quick-fire presentations from a range of speakers. The teams will then spend the whole day on Fri 24/11 putting their ideas into practice before presenting these to our expert panel towards the end of the day.

          #HacktheNorth - Helping the region work and grow Use your digital skills and creativity to help solve Manchester’s unemployment challenges, and further cement the city’s position as an international cultural and economic hub. What to expect: The event will be held across two days, from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday 23 November. We'll then start again from 9:30am to 6pm on Friday 24 November. The challenge: DWP Digital will be joined by some of the brightest and most creative people in the north to work on solutions which address one of the most pressing issues in the area. Despite Manchester’s growing popularity among top employers and its reputation as one of the UK's tech hubs, there are still more than 158,000 unemployed people in the North West. The challenge for our hack is to identify and address the barriers to people applying for these jobs, and develop an innovative solution to encourage people to retrain and travel to where the work is. We believe it’s a great opportunity to generate ideas to help further cement Manchester’s place as an international cultural and economic hub, and we'd like to invite you to co-create solutions which could make a difference to this important cause. Event format: We are working in partnership with our sponsors MongoDB.             De Montfort University in Leicester, England, is holding a Text Hackathon from 12.30pm on Friday 10 November to 12.30pm on Sunday 12 November 2017, at its Eric Wood Learning Zone. Everyone who is interested in searching and analysing large bodies of digital text is welcome to come. All levels of ability and all ages are welcome and will be catered for, from those who know nothing about this topic to those who study it and those who teach it and research it. Free high-quality food--with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and coeliac options--will be served throughout the event. Overview of challenge A fabulous opportunity to get involved with the Cyber/Networking challenge being ran for Edge Hill students by UKFAST https://goo.gl/pQ8wss  Overview You are part of a team working for UKFast charged with migrating new clients on to UKFast systems’ and infrastructure. Big Happy Shop Inc. have decided to use UKFast as a hosting provider due to poor levels of service from their previous supplier. They have particular concerns and requirements and are interested in the extra level of service that UKFast and its sister security company Secarma can provide. Big Happy Shop Inc. are a leading UK eCommerce concern. Their main system consists of a shopping website that includes multiple functions such as account creation, shopping, comment and message functionality. The company recently received financial investment to take their product to a US market. However, the deployment has not gone well. The US version of their site has potential security concerns due to inexperienced developers. In addition, they fear the site may have already been compromised in some way that may have compromised the security of their server. Your job is to find any security flaws in the web application, any vulnerabilities which may have been introduced to the server, and provide any relevant patches / fixes. Unfortunately, they require that the system remains online and may be under constant attack. You have five hours to identify as many security issues as you can and provide solutions! Points will be awarded for each problem identified and each team will get double points for each solution offered with implemented fixes and patches. Each team will submit their findings using a Google Form. These will then be totalled and checked to pick a winning team. Location:  This challenge will be taking place at the UKFAST Offices in Manchester.  Return transport will be provided from Edge Hill.  Coach will depart from Edge Hill at 7:30am and pick up at the UK FAST offices at 4pm.
