University of Leeds Hackathon

Everyone is invited to join our 24 hour non-stop hackathon looking at the challenging and exciting area of Financial Technology in partnership with major technology leaders (PWC, YBS and others). Join us for this event, work in a team and propose a concept, or build a prototype, or design a start-up.
Our sponsors have provided a set of topics in the areas of financial tech, digital identity, security, and personal digital assistants. Once you've been allocated a team, you will have 24 hours to propose a great idea for a particular topic and produce an initial prototype. You will then present your idea to a judging panel on Sunday afternoon. A winning team will be chosen for each topic area. Throughout the event you will be given mentoring and support by research staff and engineers in designing and building your concept. Mentors will also be on hand to look at your CV and give you tips on employability etc.
PRIZES
The winning teams will each receive a £500 Amazon voucher.
TEAMS
Teams will consist of 4 people, you can either register as a team or we can help you form a team at the reception event. We encourage multi-disciplinary teams to give you the best the chance of success.

FAQs
Are there restrictions on who can take part?
There are no restrictions on who can take part (other than age requirement of 18+). The event is open to individuals with an interest in computer programming, students from universities across the country (undergraduates and postgraduates) and staff from the universities in Leeds. We'd also love to see a great mix of disciplines, although having someone with a computing background on your team will help.
Are meals provided?
Yes, at the reception on Friday we'll provide a buffet. On Saturday we'll provide lunch and dinner. On Sunday we'll provide breakfast and lunch. There will be coffee and soft drinks available throughout as well. There is not cost for the food or drink.
Do we need to register as a team?
No, teams will consist of 4 people. All members of the team should register individually before the event and you can let us know on Friday that you've got team sorted. If you haven't got a team yet, we'll help you either form or join a team during the reception on Friday and Saturday morning.
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Yes, hackathon participants must be over 18 as the event runs throughout Saturday night.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

What can I bring into the event?
Please bring a laptop.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Do I need to be a computer scientist or programmer to take part?
No, you can either present a concept or form a team with people who can build a prototype with you. Multi-disciplinary teams are often most effective.
Do we go home on Friday evening after the welcome reception?
Yes, after the welcome reception the hackathon kicks off on Saturday morning and then runs through the night until Sunday afternoon.

All profits generated from ticket sales will be donated to our charity - The King Edward's School Birmingham Trust. This charity supports the Assisted Places Scheme, which allows children to attend KES who could not otherwise afford a place.

Fifth Sheffield Smart City Hackathon

Purpose: The ambition is to bring the open source culture in to the act of building a Smart City in Sheffield. This is about being open and inclusive and no matter what your skill level to help you play a valuable role in building technology that benefits Sheffielders.
How the Hackathon works: The Sheffield Hackspace (Sheffield Hardware, Hackers & Makers – SHH&M) will run a monthly hackathon around Smart City technology for a trial period of 6 months and with a view to extending and expanding if demand is proven. The first hackathon will be on Sunday April 15th (11.00am to 4.00pm). There won’t be a hackathon in August (holiday season), making the final hackathon due in September 2018.
There will be some projects that groups work on and some projects individuals work on. Participants will have access to people with know-how, various equipment and a lab-like environment to work in. We don’t want to impose our agenda so in Hackathon #1 (i.e. 15th April) we will explore how do you want this to work? We expect the 6 hackathons to focus on The Things Network (https://www.thethingsnetwork.org/ ) Gateways and Nodes, as well as Sensors, Apps, IoT Services etc, all to be agreed on the 15th April.
Cost: Hackathon attendance is free to existing members of Sheffield Hardware Hackers & Makers.
Hackathon attendance for non-SHH members costs £6 and enables you to visit one of the weekly Special Interest Group (SIG) of your choice and access a drop-in session that runs on alternating Saturdays in the month you attended. This is payable at the door.

This workshop will be the first step into self- coaching and a co- worker coaching environment. We are including a self- worth hackathon and we have a guest speaker that will be sharing how she turned trauma into something extraodinary.

Network resilience hackathon

Leeds City Centre Network resilience hackathon – by invitation only
On Tuesday 10th July Yorkshire Water will be hosting a brand new hackathon focusing on optimising our networks to predict our ever unpredictable weather patterns.
We would like to invite you to this exclusive, closed event as part of a unique opportunity to get into the heart of Yorkshire Water and develop new tools and insights that can pin-point the optimal location of over 8,000 network monitors throughout our region.
The event will take place at an exclusive location in Leeds City Centre and participants will get the chance to interrogate multiple datasets, from include pollution incident reports, CSO telemetry data & sewer flooding incident history. Geographic identifiers will be included via secure data transfer methods with GDPR protection provided by a licence arrangement developed by the ODI.
The event, jointly facilitated by our partners the Open Data Institute (ODI Leeds) and with Yorkshire Water Directors and Jonson Cox, OFWAT chair in attendance, will present a unique perspective to our data and offer brand new insights into how new technology can unlock the secrets of our network infrastructure; something we are all keen to harness in this new world of innovation.
