EDS2 Roadshow - Yorkshire and Humber
09 Dec - 01:00 PM
Leeds, United Kingdom
Purpose
The purpose of these regional roadshows should be as follows:
- Raise the profile of EDS2 as a vehicle for change
- Identify the connections and links between EDS2 and various other diversity / equality initiatives including (but not limited to) the workforce race equality standard (WRES), the accessible information standard, the DH learning disabilities programme, the workforce disability equality standard and the sexual orientation standards work
- Share good and best practice in the use of EDS2 – including the EDS2 voluntary and community sector engagement guide
- Explore how EDS2 can be employed and utilise by organisations more effectively in order to influence organisational / cultural change
Audience
The target audience for the roadshows should be:
- Diversity and inclusion managers within provider trusts and CCGs
- Human Resource Directors and managers within provider trusts and CCGs
- Organisational development managers within provider trusts and CCGs
- Service managers and leads within provider trusts and CCGs
Format
The roadshows will consist of a three hour session. The sessions will be divided into two parts and will take the form of a mini-hackathon. The first part will focus on what the challenges are with EDS2. It will look at the format and structure of EDS2 and critically de-construct it to see what its weaknesses are; what doesn’t work at all; what works a little; and (critically) what needs to change. The second part will focus on the positive aspects of EDS2. It will look at the format and structure of EDS2 and assess its strengths: what works well; why things work well; and what we need to more of.
Our proposal is that for the first session we will break the delegates up into four separate groups – one looking at / thinking about the structure of EDS2 as a model / framework; one looking at / thinking about the language of EDS2; one looking at / thinking about how well (or not) EDS2 links across or “talks to” other diversity initiatives in the NHS; and one looking at / thinking about EDS2 as a vehicle of change. Each of the four groups will be led / facilitated by a nominated person that we have invited. We will be inviting guests from the workforce race equality standard, learning disability and equalities and health inequalities teams.
The second session will break the delegates into three groups – but set them the following tasks: firstly, how can EDS2 be better promoted / publicised in order to make it more accessible?; secondly, how can EDS2 be better structured / formatted / presented in order to make it more user friendly?; and thirdly, how can EDS2 be used more effectively within organisations as a vehicle of change? Each group will be asked to propose 3 or 4 recommendations to the group that they can vote on using our in-house voting system.
A plenary session will capture the thoughts / feedback.

Sheffield Tech for Good: Refugees
15 Nov - 06:00 PM
Sheffield, United Kingdom
The next Sheffield Tech For Good meet up is on Tuesday 15 November at Yoomee's new office at 9 South Street, part of the redeveloped section of Park Hill.
We'll be starting at 6pm with four short talks until about 7.15pm, when we'll start socialising with food and drink, which is kindly sponsored by Tech North.
Each Sheffield Tech for Good meet up focuses on a single theme such, as mental health, the environment, education and social care. This meet up focuses on refugees and specifically, refugees in Sheffield.
Sheffield and the refugee crisis
There will be three sessions followed by a good hour for networking and general chit-chat.
First, you’ll get to hear about the Asylum Journey, a tool that came out of the Sheffugee hackathons. It’s gone from a paper prototype to something used by organisations across Sheffield to help refugees get the vital information they need.
We have a more general talk from those who are working hard to support asylum seekers and refugees in Sheffield. They’ll share the work they do and some ideas for how people in the tech community can get involved.
Finally, you’ll also hear from Sheffield Donations for Calais, a small local group that collects and sends donations for asylum seekers and refugees in desperate need in the refugee camps in France, Greece and even Syria.
Food, drink and finding us
Tech North have kindly sponsored food and drink for the event again, so no need to grab an after-work sandwich. And to find us, just head to Yoomee’s front entrance at Park Hill, the side facing the city centre. The address is 9 South Street, S2 5QY. Don’t worry. We’ll put some signs up.
Reserve your spot
The aim is to have 50% tech folk and 50% social good at each event. That’s why we have specific tickets set up on Eventbrite for each audience. If you work in tech, hit the big green register button and choose the 'tech' ticket. If you work for a charity, non-profit or identify as working in the general area of 'social good', choose the 'non-profit' ticket.
Note: Tech tickets are always popular, so we'd like to restrict tickets to one person per company to give everyone a chance to attend.
Find out more
If you have any questions, email iain@yoomee.com and I’ll get back to you pronto.

* What do we mean by "making"? We're talking about people who craft, design, manufacture, tinker with, engineer, fabricate, and repair physical things. Art, craft, electronics, textiles, products, robots. Hi-tech and low-tech, amateur and professional, young and old, with digital tools or by hand. Historical perspectives, what's happening here and now, and how things might change in the future. We aim to be diverse and inclusive. If what you make, or how you see yourself, is a little bit on the fringes, you're doubly welcome.
