BCUHack is a 24 hour Hackathon, which is free for students at Birmingham City University. A Hackathon is an event in which a large number of people meet to engage in collaborative computer programming. Programmers and web developers of all experience levels are welcome to participate and you do not need to be an expert. This is a brilliant opportunity for you to develop new software, learn about new technologies, acquire new skills and meet new people. The Hackathon will involve you working in a team to develop software within the time frame. There will be challanges set by the event sponsors and you can create software on any platform, using the tools provided by our sponsors. After the 24 hour programming period, the teams get together to present their new software to the sponsors and judging panel and prizes are awarded. Hewlett Packard Enterprise is hosting the next OpenStack Swift Hackathon in Bristol, UK. The OpenStack Swift mid-cycle hackathons are designed to allow the active contributors from the global community to get together for a few days and review code, design features, and work together. This event is geared towards Swift development, and will not include any introductory sessions or formal presentations - the agenda will be designed on the go based on what will need to be covered.

Hackathon for those who love playing with big data  :) Often, hackathons can be disappointing experiences.  First off, the type of projects people present to each other differ greatly.  Secondly, the programming tools and stack used are not common - making building the projects needlessly difficult despite agreeing on the general idea. Data REMIX solves this problem by: 1) Common Type of Projects We only take on projects that involve remix big amounts of data.  We either obtain the data through APIs or by scraping.  These projects are a lot more fun..  We can see the results immediately at the end of the hackathon.  We do not need to wait to get new users to create new data for an unproven idea before seeing any results whatsoever.  We can enjoy the projects just by seeing how the data is rearranged in creative ways. 2) Common Tools We use the Python programming language and Google App Engine.  Creating an application for a few users or millions of users is fundamentally the same in GAE.  So essentially, all projects completed at the hackathon can be fully production ready.  And with AngularJS for mobile, we do not need to wait for apps to be approved by various mobile app stores.  An AngularJS mobile app can be run natively and used publicly at the end of the of hackathon. Schedule : 11:00 - 11:30   Welcome and Pairing At the beginning, participants will be placed in pairs.  One member of the team can gather the data while the other can prepare the application itself.  Or one member can preapre the web app while the other prepares the mobile app. 11:30 - 5:00   Coding There will be pizza and drinks available throughout.  Up to teams to decide when to take breaks.  5:00 - 6:00   Presentation and Award Towards the end of the event, each team will present theiir project within ten minutes.  And each team votes for another team for best hackathon project.  We are hoping to get some sponsor support which would also mean some prizes. People can continue to hang out after the event.  The location nearby becomes a full bar after 7pm.

The #UX4Change Hackathon invites you to come and create personas to design sustainable technology for a humanitarian cause. You will take on the challenge of creating personas that reflect women like pregnant young Syrian refugees from Aleppo who have no access to vital pre-natal information. UX for Change is partnering with the HaBaby app team which supports pregnant refugees during their journey through different countries by providing a list of symptoms, actions to take and multilingual support in order to ease the communication with health care providers, who may or may not speak their language.  You will learn how to create personas for HaBaby and work with Subject Matter Experts (SEMs) available during the event to shape the HaBaby project design decisions. There will be prizes for the best team as well as digital badges for participating in the event.
