Mental Health Hackathon
29 Jun - 12:30 PM
Birmingham, United Kingdom
iSE, as part of their work leading the West Midlands Third Sector Innovation Network, is holding a taster half day 'hack' with West Midlands Academic Science Health Network and in partnership with RnR Organisation, for anyone interested in innovative solutions for mental health prevention.
We invite third sector organisations, service users, entrepreneurs, developers, designers, healthcare professionals and the public to come along and work together on addressing these health and social care issues by designing and building digital or service solutions.
Why come to #HackMentalHealth?
#HackMentalHealth will bring together professionals, students, industry experts, and others in healthTech who are passionate about healthTech and building the future of mental health services, so come along to find new ideas, meet someone new, have fun, or simply learn a new skill that stretches you beyond your usual day-to-day life.
Hacks are very fluid sessions where everyone has a voice and can collaborate to build and demonstrate inspirational, creative and innovative ideas to address a 'challenge of the day'. For this social hackathon we are looking at innovating to improve mental health across a range of topics such as...
Mental support application for unemployed workers
Supporting the mental health of long-term care workers
Fostering well-being, stress reduction and sense of belonging during transition to full-time work
Taking control of digital stress
E-health interventions for indigenous mental health in the workplace
Addressing the burden of addictions on the workforce with e-tool solutions
Building accessible mental health literacy training and supports for under-resourced health-care workplace
Developing a mental health support programme for prevention of major depression in workplaces
Whether you are an expert or a newbie, we welcome you to join this event and work with your local health community to present your ideas for solutions to real-world problems.
Challenges will be pitched at the kick off of the event, and attendees can pick one of the challenges to work on with a team. At the end of the hack, teams have the option to showcase their projects on stage.
Event information will be updated here over the next week but please register to attend and secure your place.
Also, if you have a passion for a mental health topic, or a future hackathon topic, please email us with your thoughts info@i-se.co.uk.

Wear Your Wheels Hackathon
27 Jun - 11:00 AM
London, United Kingdom
Over 65 million people worldwide require a wheelchair to be part of society and live an independent life. The freedom a wheelchair can give depends on how bespoke it. With traditional manufacturing techniques this freedom comes at a price that most people can't afford but new techniques such as 3D printing, CNC milling and laser cutting could change that. It’s already been done for bionic limbs, now why not wheelchairs?
On the 27th June, we're inviting designers, makers and wheelchair users to come together at Machines Room, a makerspace in East London, to use digital fabrication techniques to develop bespoke wheelchair components that respond to a user-led design challenge.
When?Tuesday 27th June, 11am - 7pm
Where?
Machines Room, 45 Vyner Street, E2 9DQ
How much does it cost to attend?
100% Free. Travel grants may be made available in some circumstances, please contact molly.gavriel@disruptdisability.org.
Who can attend?
Anyone! But please let us know if you are a wheelchair user, designer or maker as attendees will be working in teams on the day.
What about accessibility?

If you would like further information on access or to reserve parking at the venue please contact Molly at molly.gavriel@disruptdisability.org. Molly is also able to provide directions from accessible public transport and organise taxis - nearby stations are Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, Hackney Central and Haggerston. Is lunch provided?

Startupbootcamp InsurTech Hackathon: Gamification in Insurance
23 Jun - 05:30 PM
London, United Kingdom
What is gamification?
Gamification involves the use of game techniques and elements to influence the behaviors of individuals. The use cases are many and diverse, but most involve prizes and points, competition and/or teamwork and scorekeeping to motivate people to meet specific goals.
Why is gamification important to insurance?
Gamification is a useful practice to engage customers, establish or strengthen brands, educate and train customers and staff, and motivate people to act. Gamification has many customer facing applications, including encouraging customer engagement and improving insurers' relationships with their customers. In addition, it can facilitate customized risk assessment and pricing, and, internally, help insurers encourage boosting sales and service performance.
Benefits & Success Story
Very often, our corporate insurance partners continue to work with individuals and teams that solve their problem statements. Read about one of our hackathon success stories.
Who Are We?
Startupbootcamp InsurTech is the leading accelerator focused on disruptive and collaborative insurance innovation and connecting with startups who have unique propositions that meet the needs of the insurance market. We are located in the heart of London, and we have the support of a global community as well as some incredible corporate partners.
Tasks
You will form a team at the start of the event. You will then work on one of the challenges provided by our corporate partners for 48 hours, and, finally, you will present in front of the judges.
Challenges
Challenge 1 (Product Development)Create a solution that would be able to improve customer behaviour/loyalty through gamification (i.e. driving score), and deduce an individual assessment in real time with this “connected” behavior.
Challenge 2 (Sales & Marketing)Ideate new ways to engage customers through AR/ geo-location.
Challenge 3 (Sales & Marketing)Gamify (using robo-advice) the quote process that allows the insurers to get the same amount of data, supports the clients whilst fully complying with consumer protection regulations in order to strengthen client management efforts and makes it interesting for the customers.
Challenge 4 (Underwriting & Risk Management)Use gamification in the underwriting process to build a risk assessment user interface that is user friendly/structured and could identify potential fraud.
Challenge 5 (Claims)Develop a robo-claim adjuster powered by AI (or smart device) to empathically advise the customer in the event of a car accident, simplifying the claims process, sharing information with other people in real time and increasing customer loyalty.
Challenge 6 (Servicing)In a world where technology solutions are exploding, South Africa is relatively “new” to technology with many users not having access to affordable data or wifi.
Create a way to guide financial advisers to the most useful and efficient digital solutions to address their specific needs - removing confusion due to the options available to them and the lack of confidence when using technology. A guided digital approach can potentially help build trust and confidence with users.
