Probabilistic Programming Workshop
  22 Mar - 09:30 AM
  Southampton, United Kingdom
Probabilistic programming is a relatively new field on the intersection of machine learning, computer science and artificial intelligence. Probabilistic programming allows you to write any generative probabilistic model in a straightforward way, simply by describing the generative forward process. Anglican is one of the start-of-the-art probabilistic programming languages. This hackathon on Probabilistic Programming based on Anglican, consisting of 3 parts. Part 1 will be an introduction session to probabilistic programing, part 2 will be for programming skills to write probabilistic programs in Anglican, and part 3 will give you the opportunity to bring along and/or discuss data and model, and discuss probabilistic programming implementations and predictions with the help of the facilitator and other participants.
Data Remix Hackathon (Python + AngularJS + Google App Engine)
      19 Mar - 11:00 AM
      London, United Kingdom
This is a hackathon on big data where you will be asked to build projects that remix big amounts of data. Either obtaining the data through APIs or by scraping. The tools that you will be using include the Python programming language and Google App Engine. Creating an application for a few users or millions of users is fundamentally the same in GAE. All participants will be placed in pairs. One member of the team can gather the data while the other can prepare the application itself or one member can prepare the web app while the other prepares the mobile app. Towards the end of the event, each team will present their project and each team votes for another team for best hackathon project. All projects completed at the hackathon will be fully production ready!

Data Remix Hackathon (Python + AngularJS + Google App Engine)
      27 Feb - 11:00 AM
      London, United Kingdom
Hackathon for those who love playing with big data  :) Often, hackathons can be disappointing experiences.  First off, the type of projects people present to each other differ greatly.  Secondly, the programming tools and stack used are not common - making building the projects needlessly difficult despite agreeing on the general idea. Data REMIX solves this problem by: 1) Common Type of Projects We only take on projects that involve remix big amounts of data.  We either obtain the data through APIs or by scraping.  These projects are a lot more fun..  We can see the results immediately at the end of the hackathon.  We do not need to wait to get new users to create new data for an unproven idea before seeing any results whatsoever.  We can enjoy the projects just by seeing how the data is rearranged in creative ways. 2) Common Tools We use the Python programming language and Google App Engine.  Creating an application for a few users or millions of users is fundamentally the same in GAE.  So essentially, all projects completed at the hackathon can be fully production ready.  And with AngularJS for mobile, we do not need to wait for apps to be approved by various mobile app stores.  An AngularJS mobile app can be run natively and used publicly at the end of the of hackathon. Schedule : 11:00 - 11:30   Welcome and Pairing At the beginning, participants will be placed in pairs.  One member of the team can gather the data while the other can prepare the application itself.  Or one member can preapre the web app while the other prepares the mobile app. 11:30 - 5:00   Coding There will be pizza and drinks available throughout.  Up to teams to decide when to take breaks.  5:00 - 6:00   Presentation and Award Towards the end of the event, each team will present theiir project within ten minutes.  And each team votes for another team for best hackathon project.  We are hoping to get some sponsor support which would also mean some prizes. People can continue to hang out after the event.  The location nearby becomes a full bar after 7pm.
Digital Catapult Centre Brighton: An introduction to Blockchain
        22 Feb - 05:30 PM
        Brighton, United Kingdom
The Digital Catapult Centre Brighton with Brightminded and Brighton Ethereum Meetup are happy to announce a new series of Blockchain meetups. Blockchain has been hailed as the most important innovation since the internet; a distributed data storage technology that essentially creates an infallible public record of digital transactions.  If you have heard of Blockchain but are not sure if it is relevant to your business or if you are a developer and want to know where to start building Blockchain based applications, join us for an exciting series of events where we will cover everything from what Blockchain will mean for your business to the tools and frameworks for implementing it. Speaker list: Anthony Culligan (SETL) - Blockchain introduction and how it is currently disrupting the financial industry Andrei Baloiu (RS Components/Slock.it) - Blockchain and the Internet of Things Chris Hitchcott - Frameworks / Meteor Embark Richard Plastow - local Meteor Embark Meetup Hugh Halford-Thompson (Blockchain Tech Ltd) - Blockchain and provenance About the speakers. After directorships in traditional Finance, Anthony Culligan became the founder and CEO of Roolo, a P2P Bitcoin exchange, and CEO of SETL, an institutional payment and settlements infrastructure based on Blockchain. Andrei Baloiu a developer for RS Components, and blogger about Blockchain and IoT on DesignSpark is also a consultant for various Bitcoin start-ups and co- organiser for various Ethereum meetups. His work has won 1st prize at Hack The Block – Blockchain Hackathon, September 2015  and 2nd prize at HackCoin – Digital Currency Hackathon, June 2015 . Chris Hitchcott works for Ethcore (Gavin Wood's Ethereum startup), and specialises in Web Development and Digital Media. He's been designing and building websites and apps since 2002. Before Ethcore, he founded and operated a successful startup in Hong Kong which delivered interactive technology to conferences.
