Missing Maps Hackathon at Imperial
24 Jul - 05:30 PM
London, United Kingdom
The Missing Maps project puts the most vulnerable places in the developing world on the map!  The most vulnerable places in the developing world are not mapped which means that first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. The aim of the project is to map the most crisis-prone parts of the developing world. With your help, we can directly improve the lives of some of the planet’s most vulnerable people. By contributing to this project, volunteers, like yourself, are able to facilitate the work of international and local NGOs who can use the data to better respond to crises. Both beginners and experienced mappers are welcome to join this mapathon! Interested in learning more whilst enjoying free Pizza? Come along to our second session on Tuesday 24th July at 5:30PM. The Mapathon will take place on the 1st Floor of the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, in MDL1, at Imperial College London. What do you need? a laptop (do please bring your own) a mouse (the mouse isn't absolutely necessary but it does make the mapping A LOT faster) We will endeavour to secure laptops and mice for attendees to borrow. Subsequent sessions to take place every 3 weeks.

Get It Done - Hacking Lingering Projects
        13 Jul - 09:00 AM
        London, United Kingdom
Want some communal motivation to try to get those lingering projects cracked? I’m organising a one or two day “hackathon” (doesn’t have to be digital work) where a few people get together with their own projects / workload and try to get one of those lingering jobs cracked. This isn't really a networking event, and there won't be any classes on motivation, time management or anything like that. You'll also have to solve your own problems. It’s a day for dedicated individual work to get your own projects cracked. Other people working on their own projects will help to create an atmosphere of motivation, and can offer moral support.  I’m going to be working on finalising a digital project, but it can be anything: sorting out your marketing, setting up an accounts system, writing a chapter of your book, knitting a jumper for someone’s Christmas present - I don’t care.
