Hackathon Challenge - Sentiment Coding Challenge
02 Nov - 01:00 PM
Ormskirk, United Kingdom
Hackathon Challenge - Sentiment Coding Challenge
Sentiment analysis (also referred to as opinion or review mining) is a long-standing problem of artificial intelligence where the goal is to automatically categorise opinions expressed in text. Sentiment analysis is currently one of the hottest area of computer science considering that sentiment analysis algorithms have found a number of applications in recommendation systems, market analysis, customer satisfaction analysis, forecasting market movement and many more.
In this challenge, you will be working to develop an ‘intelligent’ software that automatically classifies the sentiment of a given product review (i.e., positive or negative). Your software should read the textual content of a product review and it should then decide whether the review is positive or negative. You will be working with a real-world, large-scale dataset which has been made publicly available by Amazon and it consists of approximately 20,000 reviews relevant to Video games.
You will be further provided with an additional ‘development’ dataset that will help you to implement rules (e.g., if review contains the word ‘hate’ the classify it as positive) or to train machine learning algorithms (e.g., using scikit-learn or ternsorflow in python or the weka library in Java) in order to improve the performance of your sentiment analysis software.

Hackathon Challenge - Alder Hey Challenge - Gaming/Computing Challenge
10am – 5pm
Tech Hub
You are invited to participate with this amazing opportunity to work with Alder Hey and a chance to contribute to their up and coming project.
Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Charity are working together to create a world first, hospital-wide patient experience app that has the potential to revolutionise patient care across the NHS.
The ‘Alder Play’ app is set to totally transform the experience of children in hospital by bringing comfort, fun, reward and distraction to young patients, whilst also providing vital information to both them and their parents and carers.
Alder Play will feature gaming and augmented reality, providing entertainment but also much needed distraction for patients having procedures. A rewards scheme will also be used to encourage interacting with the app and rewarding patients for co-operating with their treatment. It will also have a digital map and detailed 360 images of the hospital enabling patients to explore and familiarise themselves with before their visit.
The app has been built by a London based developer ustwo, who have created an amazing interface that is now being tested within Alder Hey. We have been fortunate to have content for the app donated by a number of sponsors, including Hasbro, FACT, Jungle Interactive and StudioWide, a Liverpool based digital company.
The Challenge
Alder Hey would like to extend the invitation to Edge Hill Computer Science students. During the challenge you will work in teams of 5 to produce a range of games for children of primary school age. Your team will be given the overall theme and categories on the morning of the challenge.
A fantastic chance to get involved with an extracurricular project and if successfully picked Alder Hey will embed your game into their APP. What a fantastic thing to have on your CV!
Open to all from Computer Science. Places are limited be sure to secure your place via Eventbrite.

Overview
You are part of a team working for UKFast charged with migrating new clients on to UKFast systems’ and infrastructure. Big Happy Shop Inc. have decided to use UKFast as a hosting provider due to poor levels of service from their previous supplier. They have particular concerns and requirements and are interested in the extra level of service that UKFast and its sister security company Secarma can provide.
Big Happy Shop Inc. are a leading UK eCommerce concern. Their main system consists of a shopping website that includes multiple functions such as account creation, shopping, comment and message functionality. The company recently received financial investment to take their product to a US market.
However, the deployment has not gone well. The US version of their site has potential security concerns due to inexperienced developers. In addition, they fear the site may have already been compromised in some way that may have compromised the security of their server. Your job is to find any security flaws in the web application, any vulnerabilities which may have been introduced to the server, and provide any relevant patches / fixes. Unfortunately, they require that the system remains online and may be under constant attack. You have five hours to identify as many security issues as you can and provide solutions!
Points will be awarded for each problem identified and each team will get double points for each solution offered with implemented fixes and patches. Each team will submit their findings using a Google Form. These will then be totalled and checked to pick a winning team.
Location: This challenge will be taking place at the UKFAST Offices in Manchester. Return transport will be provided from Edge Hill. Coach will depart from Edge Hill at 7:30am and pick up at the UK FAST offices at 4pm.
