We want to identify where hand-offs between organisations cause difficulty or hardship to individuals, and to explore how support services offered by organisation in an around Manchester could be brought together most effectively for the benefit of people in the region.

We launched in June and then met again in August - with #TechTea beginning in September.  November will be the start of events every two months where we'll begin to put into action what we've learnt from Sheffield women in technology so far. Each event will have time to chat and and, if networking isn't your thing and sends a shiver down your spine, don't be put off! Shehla also runs Cameratic, a blog she created to showcase her photography, filming and copy writing, as well as Drone 360, where she creates aerial photography.  Shehla will talk about her rollercoast ride since quitting her job two years ago to work remotely and travel.  Since then she has set up multiple companies, further developed her knowledge of technology and experienced working in male dominated environments.  If you're a budding creative who doesn't know where to start or more experienced but stuck in your comfort zone, this talk may give you a quiet and gentle push to start moving.   A series of fortunate blags - Tanya FIsh Tanya Fish has been enthusing about science and making in some form or other for most of her life. She's written tutorials, magazine articles, and educational materials. She's talked about making to all sorts of audiences, including the Guild of Makers Launch, Hackaday Unconferences, and at Maker Faires. She runs workshops at festivals, conferences, and universities; and has just ventured into YouTube. In this talk, Tanya explains how being out of your depth is an advantage, how you are worth more than you think and how there is no such thing as modesty when you're bigging yourself up. Coding and hackathon(ing) - Kat Walker and Darren Vong Kat Walker is a Computer Science student and demonstrator at Sheffield University and a Code First Girls Instructor.  Darren Vong is a Full Stack Developer at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and a lead instructor at Code First Girls. In this talk, Kat and Darren will talk about their experiences supporting Code First Girls and attending hackathons.  If you've ever wanted to learn to code or develop your coding knowledge, attend a hackathon (or aren't sure what a hackathon is) but have never had chance to ask questions in advance, tonight may be your night. The first Leeds Blockchain Hackathon is here, and you’re invited. #LBH2018 is the ultimate event for learning, hacking and networking for teams of budding coders, developers, tech enthusiasts and people from all areas of the vibrant tech community in Leeds. Law is the next significant sector going through disruption using AI, Algorithms, Machine Learning and Big Data. We expected lots of innovation in the legal industry, instead, we’ve seen very little. Computer programmers and other developers will be attending our hackathon event to create innovative solutions to solve real challenges in the legal sector. Lawyers, technologists and computer scientists will also be attending to create innovative solutions to solve real challenges in law. It’s your chance to hear about what’s coming up, and get involved with how things will change in the future. Be part of shaping some of the changes and helping us improve things for stores. The Hackathon is a session designed to get you involved in decision making and problem solving around the topics that affect stores the most. You’ve all shown yourselves to be invested and interested in the business by making suggestions, sending in queries, or asking to be involved in sessions in the future, so we’d like you to attend and get involved. Please feel free to share this in your Area, with your AM for them to spread further, or to anyone else you know who may be interested. Hackathon Challenge - Alder Hey Challenge - Gaming/Computing Challenge   Launch Day -  1st November 2018 (10am - 5pm) Presentation and final day - 21st November 2018 (2pm - 4pm)  Tech Hub You are invited to participate with this amazing opportunity to work with Alder Hey and a chance to contribute to their up and coming project. Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Alder Hey Children’s Charity are working together to create a world first, hospital-wide patient experience app that has the potential to revolutionise patient care across the NHS. The ‘Alder Play’ app is set to totally transform the experience of children in hospital by bringing comfort, fun, reward and distraction to young patients, whilst also providing vital information to both them and their parents and carers. Alder Play will feature gaming and augmented reality, providing entertainment but also much needed distraction for patients having procedures. A rewards scheme will also be used to encourage interacting with the app and rewarding patients for co-operating with their treatment. It will also have a digital map and detailed 360 images of the hospital enabling patients to explore and familiarise themselves with before their visit. The app has been built by a London based developer ustwo, who have created an amazing interface that is now being tested within Alder Hey. We have been fortunate to have content for the app donated by a number of sponsors, including Hasbro, FACT, Jungle Interactive and StudioWide, a Liverpool based digital company. The Challenge Alder Hey would like to extend the invitation to Edge Hill  Computer Science students.  During the challenge you will work in teams of 5 to produce a range of games for children of primary school age.  Your team will be given the overall theme and categories on the morning of the challenge.   Everyone is invited to join our 24 hour non-stop hackathon looking at the challenging and exciting area of Financial Technology in partnership with major technology leaders (PWC, YBS and others). Join us for this event, work in a team and propose a concept, or build a prototype, or design a start-up. Our sponsors have provided a set of topics in the areas of financial tech, digital identity, security, and personal digital assistants. Once you've been allocated a team, you will have 24 hours to propose a great idea for a particular topic and produce an initial prototype. You will then present your idea to a judging panel on Sunday afternoon. A winning team will be chosen for each topic area. Throughout the event you will be given mentoring and support by research staff and engineers in designing and building your concept.
