It is a competition that gathers programmers with different skill sets to work collaboratively, on a software project, which creatively solves various problems on a given topic. Who’s behind the Global Travel Hackathon? The idea was born at Kiwi.com, however, each of the hackathons has a different organiser. Please, consult the web page to see who’s the main organiser of the hackathon you are interested in. What should I build?The general theme of the Global Travel Hackathon is sustainability, accessibility and community in the world of travel.  In order to participate, do I need to stay for the whole 24 hours?We don't force anyone but we higly recommend that to enjoy the time to the top. Is there a hashtag? Yes, it’s #HackTravel. Can I get support to travel to a hackathon? We do not provide travel support to attend a hackathon of your choice. You are free to organize a hackathon in your city by yourself – if you would like to, let us know here. How big can my team be?From two to four people. Can I get a head start on my hack?To ensure a level playing field for all participants, all code and assets must be created during the hackathon. Failure to comply with this rule may result in the offending team's disqualification. Nevertheless, feel free to make plans, create wireframes, and brainstorm ahead of the event. Can I use external APIs, services, and SDKs?You are encouraged to use any 3rd party services, APIs, open-source projects, libraries, and frameworks as long as they are publicly available on the web. We offer our public API's that you can find on our B2B platform Tequila, so you can use our resources to take the travel experience to a new level. Who owns the intellectual property generated during the hackathon?What you create is yours. No one else, including Kiwi.com, has the rights to use it outside of the competition. What if I don't know how to code?You are still welcome! As long as you come willing to learn and ready to contribute ideas, you can contribute to a team. But your team must have at least one developer because you will be evaluated on the technical solution of a demo you deliver in those 24 hours. What are the demos like?You'll have 180 seconds to pitch your idea and demo to a panel of judges. You'll be provided with AV support, a microphone, and a projector. The specific criteria of the evaluation process will be presented in August 2019. What we know for sure, is that one of the criteria would be the technical solution. Please, make sure that at least one of your team members can code. Is there any age limit for attendees of the event? Yes, you have to be at least 18 years old on the day of the event.

THE HACKATHON CHALLENGE The day will culminate in a  ‘hackathon’ activity.  So what's a hackathon? In a nutshell, cross-sector delegate teams will work together to explore what matters to you and what matters the most. "We need a national debate on rare diseases to offer the best possible care". Cambridge Rare Disease Network welcomes Baroness Nicola Blackwood to deliver a speech to usher in our cross-sector hackathon "What matters to you. What matters most?" The minister, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Health and Social Care, recently said "I want to lead a national conversation on rare diseases, and how we care better for people. We want to talk to staff, patients, experts and researchers...to capture views on the big strategic issues that affect you." At RAREsumit hackathon we'll be giving delegates the opportunity, in cross-sector teams, to 'identify common themes and proposals to help develop the vision for a post-2020 rare disease framework'. Your thoughts and priorities will be shared with the Minister as a report following. Will you be there to have your say? Selected teams will have the opportunity to pitch their idea on stage.  We aim for delegates to be inspired to develop this cross-sector approach with patients as equal and vital partners. You’re invited to… Do Your Bit: Hackathon We are hosting a Do Your Bit: Hackathon as part of the global micro:bit challenge which launches in September, led by Micro:bit Educational Foundation and supported by British Council. This event is for Lambeth residents only and those eligible for sponsored places at our events. Check if you are eligible for sponsored places here. What can you expect at Do Your Bit: Hackathon? Children will be challenged to find a creative solution to real-world issues around two of the UN’s sustainable development goals – number 14 ‘Life Below Water’ and number 15 ‘Life On Land’. They will be using micro:bit to do this, a tiny programmable computer! See all the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals here. They’ll explore creative invention through micro-computing, which can be used to create everything from robots to musical instruments. They’ll design, build and programme their own projects in response to sustainable development goals 14 and 15. Have a look at some of the devices that the winners of the last Global Goals challenge created – like the impressive team of friends in Croatia that won the micro:bit Global Challenge for Europe for their Spine:bit creation. It was designed to prevent bad posture and reduce posture-related injuries! Once children at the event have got to grips with coding their micro:bit, they’ll start the creative process of prototyping their ideas in a specially designed space and using materials like motors, servos, lights and sensors as well as arts and crafts and their creativity! The workshop is designed for all abilities and allows children with previous experience of micro:bit to work on more complicated projects. Although this is a global competition, the main aim of the game is to have fun whilst learning. At the end of the event, they’ll have the choice to enter their ideas into the Do Your: Bit global competition. When and where is Do Your Bit: Hackathon? Saturday 14 September, 10:00am – 4:00pm, at the Imagination Lab. At 3:30pm there will be a show and tell session where children will demo and share their prototypes and get feedback. Who is Do Your Bit: Hackathon for and how much does it cost?
