It's time for Hatch 2018!  In 2017 SheCanCode in partnership with UCLe launched Hatch - the first UK 50:50 diversity hackathon. 100 hackers from 28 universities spent a weekend locked in at the Ministry of Justice, creating amazing responses to some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. And now, we want to do it all over again! Hatch is a 2-day innovation hackathon, leveraging diversity and technology to solve real-world problems and create social impact. You will experience the entire lifecycle of a startup, from ideation to execution and pitch!  A fast and fun weekend where you will be challenged, inspired and motivated by speakers, mentors and fellow hackers.     Tech For UK Hackathon Tech For UK aims to produce tech products to lobby for a ‘People’s Vote’ on Brexit, with the option for the UK to remain and lead in the EU. We are working closely with Best for Britain, which is a non-aligned movement with no other aim other than to stop Brexit and allow Britain to retain and enhance its incredible position as a leader in the EU.         Agile Scientific and The UK Oil and Gas Authority invite you to take part in the latest hackathon for subsurface scientists! There's also an optional Bootcamp for those new to programming. The theme is Machine Learning. As part of a teams of 6 participants, you will find a project to work on, then spend the weekend working on a prototype web app, proof of concept service, or machine learning model — or whatever you think will bring your idea to life. Geologists, geophysicists, petroleum engineers, mathematicians, interpreters... all are welcome. Whether you've been coding for 2 hours, 2 years, or 20 years, you'll fit right in.                   Data Warehouse Automation     Red Olive and WhereScape are providing interactive training and practical demonstrations - 22 / 11 / 18       What's happening at the event?   Red Olive and our partner WhereScape offer you the opportunity to create a fully funcitional, automated and documented data warehouse in under two hours, without writing a single line of code! Join us for a interactive session in which you will test drive WhereScape Data Automation software for yourself, followed by an educational keynote on data ethics. This event is perfect for business leaders looking for tools to improve their teams's efficiency and speed up the development / delivery process.                   Serena Williams, who in a personal essay lamented that black women in America earn 17% less than their white female counterparts. “Even black women who have earned graduate degrees get paid less at every level. This is as true in inner cities as it is in Silicon Valley,” wrote Williams. “We are going to have to fight for every penny.” There are similar data for the UK – black women, for example, have seen virtually no progress in closing the gender pay gap between them and white men since the 1990s, which according to the Fawcett Society, still stands at 19.6%. (The Guardian) Is it any wonder that black women in the UK are between two and a half and ten times more likely to become entrepreneurs? (ibid GEM, London Business School 2004) Black Women Tech Talk, featuring black women tech entrepreneurs and female pioneers who will come together to network, share their stories and opportunities that are available for women of colour to launch, grown and raise finance for their start-ups while tackling our unique challenges. She left a successful carrear at the Civil Service and became a Digital Project Manager contractor. DrinksBot was founded when Ekua came up with the idea to provide an on-demand craft drinks service for office workers to wind down after a long hard week. Ekua launched DrinksBot in 2018 with an inclusive drinks experience extravaganza with a Robot Carnival at Mindspace co-working space.  An avid runner, Ekua successfully completed the London Marathon this year. She was also awarded a ticket to Barack Obama’s acceptance for the nomination to the Democratic party for her campaigning work for the civic voluntary organisation DCVote.
