His industry background is in systems modelling and development. He has been involved with Blockchain projects since 2015 and hosted the first UK Hackathon based on Hyperledger Fabric. Wednesday 28th November 2018 Data, Modelling and Uncertainty RPA launch sandpit event The leads of the new Data, Modelling and Uncertainty RPA would like to invite you to participate in its launch sandpit/hackthon event, intended as a catalyst for kicking off exciting new projects and collaborations.  “Challenge leads” from across the University’s faculties will give short presentations describing open research challenges, following which there will be a 2-hour sandpit/hackathon session for participants to get hands on with the problems and the data.  There is £34k funding available for to support development of projects that emerge from the sandpit. No experience in coding? Interested in queer identities and social media? To encourage new ways of thinking about and engaging with queerness and queer identities, the Hackathon will encourage creative engagement with the textual data gathered from the hashtag #Queer on Twitter. The event aims to give an introductory knowledge to python programming as well as bringing together people with different disciplinary backgrounds to analyse, process and display the data in imaginative ways, and discuss the meanings behind it. The day will begin at 9:30am with an introduction to the project by the coordinators of the event, and an outline of the dataset. There will be a short speed-networking session to build teams around shared ideas. From 11:00am Siân Brooke (Oxford Internet Institute) will run an introductory workshop into python Programming for absolute beginners using Anaconda/Jupyter Notebooks (*please bring your own laptops*). Instructions on setting up the necessary software for this workshop will be sent out in advance, and if you have any difficulties, please come to the event early so that we can assist you. Over lunch, teams will assemble to look over the data, think of ways to analyse the tweets and perhaps request additional input or resources. At the end of the day (4:00pm), teams will pitch their projects to the group and a prize will be awarded to the best project. At the end of the day, we'll head to the pub to chat and discuss ideas.

What's a hackathon? A hackathon is a collaborative programming festival. The main goal is to try to create a project in a relatively short amount of time, such as 24 hours. It's a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, learn from mentors, and make cool stuff. What's HackNotts? HackNotts is our annual hackathon, hosted in the School of Computer Science on Jubilee Campus. This year, the event will be running over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of November, with the opening presentations starting some time around 11am on the Saturday, and the closing presentation will be early in the evening on the Sunday. Who can attend? You're allowed to attend HackNotts if you are: - At least 18 years old A highschool, undergraduate or postgraduate student, or A graduate who is less than a year out of university Do I need to have a team? Not at all! You can of course come to the event with a team already planned, but there are loads of people who don't have teams when they arrive. At the start of the event, we'll help to make sure that everybody has a team, if they want one. Where can I find out more? Collaborate as part of a 2-5 person team and compete for great prizes. You can also win a place in TUI's IT Graduate Scheme!

HackTheMidlands 3.0 is a 24-hour, inclusive hackathon being hosted in Birmingham on the 3rd/4th November 2018 at Millennium Point. We're super excited to be back for our 3rd iteration, and we'd love to have y'all join us! But what is going to happen at the event? Over the 24 hours, people aged 14+ of all skill levels (you don't have to be a professional or a student! Just be lovely, passionate and interested in tech!) will come together to share ideas, and create new and awesome projects! (Not sure what a hackathon is? MLH have a great explanation here). There'll also be fun minigames, challenges and free food/drink to make sure you have an absolutely wonderful time. But I don't have any experience - I won't be any good! Nonsense - Everyone has to start somewhere, and we will have mentors at the event to help you along. One of the most awesome qualities of hackathons is the sheer number of lovely people that you'll meet at them, so no matter your skill level or expertise, you'll always be able to have an awesome time, pick up loads of new skills, and make new friends!

On the afternoon of Wednesday 17 October at 2.00pm a small team from TUI will be at the University in Room A004 to introduce you to TUI, the possible opportunities available to you, and to talk about the forthcoming TUI Hackathon 3.0.  You will learn how you could start your career in Technology and Travel by joining the TUI Graduate Scheme. They also want your questions, ideas and feedback.  TUI is a large international company with its UK headquarters in Luton where much of its software development / software engineering takes place - with the main focus on IT, analytics and finance.  TUI is keen to offer a range of opportunities to Computing and Business undergraduates and postgraduates.   Following the success of a Hackathons organised in partnership with TUI in February, 2017, and again in November, 2017 we are organising TUI Hackathon 3.0.  This will take place on Friday evening and Saturday of 9/10 November and is aimed at all Year 1, 2 and 3 undergraduates (and anyone else studying within the CST or Business School) and will be more than just another Hackathon but rather a learning experience.  TUI’s software developers will be present to advise and guide you.  TUI will also be on the lookout for promising undergraduates to join their TUI Graduate Scheme!   Please attend the talk and find out what this all about.
