The Food Security and Resilience Copernicus Hackathon is coming to Leicester for the first time. The Hackathon takes place at the Leicester Innovation Hub on 19 and 20 September 2019. Over an exciting 48 hours, teams will work collaboratively using Copernicus data “coding experience” practically to develop solutions to address global and local needs applicable to us all based on specific food security challenges. The Benefit of Participation. Approximately 60 participants will take part in the free to attend “Copernicus Hackathon” to identify and ideally implement innovative solutions by exploiting Copernicus data and services collaboratively.  Ideally the direct benefit of participation will be the development and commercialisation of new products and services through either the creation of new business entities or collaborative projects/partnerships with the university.  The indirect benefit will be solutions identified in support of a common goal of food and water security, community cohesiveness and greater awareness of critical societal issues and challenges. To optimise the benefits the University will also deliver a free training weekend, ahead of the 2-day hackathon, for developers, designers, researchers and industry participants on Agile and Rapid MVP (Minimal Viable Product) developments and their specific requirements.  In addition, a prize will be awarded, and follow-up support offered to the winning team at the end of the hackathon to help progress the idea.   The theme. Food/Water Security, and its Resilience within a Changing Climate is a United Nations sustainable development goal (https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org). Participants can choose any theme to work on during the Hackathon which could include: Use of logistics, supply chain and block chain for food/water security; Smart agriculture; New services/technologies (e.g. smart insurance) Resource mapping/stock taking; Any societal or technical challenge relevant to the theme. 01 Jun - 10:00 AM
            ,
Free Your Mind Hackathon, with Code Nation and EMIS Health  Code Nation and EMIS Health are focussed on digital innovation, creating real solutions to real problems. Inspired by EMIS Health’s charity partner Mind we’re launching our ‘Free Your Mind’ Hackathon on Saturday 1st June, and we hope to do just that.  Here’s what EMIS have to say about this amazing project …  “We want to be ahead of the game; eager to find, design, test and support ground-breaking ideas in the world of healthcare, ensuring we can enable patients to live longer and healthier lives. We’re also a caring bunch - we’re aware of our potential impact on the healthcare sector, on each other and within the workplace. As a business we are proud to partner with Mind as our official charity partner, who help us to champion the importance of mental health and wellbeing.  We’ve created this Hackathon because we want to provide our expert knowledge and insight in healthcare software, to support the need for more digital innovation around mental health and wellbeing”.   What is the aim?  This hackathon will give participants the chance to explore the ever-expanding role of AI and chatbots, the potential to monitor Social Media feeds and the ability to utilise the capabilities of SmartHome devices to raise alarms or escalate a potential crisis.  Our main aim is for our participants to have fun whilst realising that technology has the power to transform the way we treat mental health problems.  This all-day Hackathon will consist of 3 ‘candidates’ to work on throughout the event, plus a number of amazing workshops with industry leaders and inspirational figures - all will be revealed soon!  How can I get involved?  You can either enter a team of six, or sign-up independently and be assigned a team upon arrival. Whilst all those taking part should be technically minded, we encourage each team to be cross-functional – so whether you work in design, product or development you will have an important role to play. This event will also be open to internal participants too from both Code Nation and EMIS Health. We look forward to seeing you there! And on behalf of Code Nation and EMIS Health - thank you in advance for your support with our project.
