Hackers and open source supporters! Sign up to be part of Hacktoberfest 2016! This is a month-long celebration of open source. Participate and help move an open source project forward. Maybe it's a project that you use and you want to give back, or perhaps it's a project new to you! You don't have to be a super coder to be part of this—bug fixes and documentation updates are a great way to contribute.

Everyone is welcome to participate in HackTheMidlands—a 24-hour, inclusive hackathon. Participants will come together to share ideas, and create new and awesome projects! Experience is NOT necessary! Everyone has to start somewhere, and there will be mentors at the event to help you along. One of the most awesome qualities of hackathons is the sheer number of lovely people that you'll meet at them, so no matter your skill level or expertise, you'll always be able to have an awesome time, pick up loads of new skills, and make new friends!

Calling all techies in the Manchester area! Come and participate in the HackerNest Manchester August Tech Social. You'll find it's a fun, relaxed way to connect with your local tech community. Atmosphere: chill, friendly, unpretentious, agenda-free and brimming with UltraSmart people. Manchester is an up and coming UK tech hub and HackerNest wants to help you connect with the local tech scene!

Wigan tech teens -- aged 13 -18! Show off your coding and programming skills at Wigan Youth Hack -- a free event, for teenagers who live in the Wigan borough. Everyone that takes part in the Wigan hack will get the opportunity to attend a big hack meet-up at the amazing Sharp Project with others across Greater Manchester who will also have been hacking.

Do you have a passion for making a difference to the care provided in schemes and homes around the country? Do you like to problem solve and find innovative solutions to everyday issues in the provision of healthcare in care homes, keeping the more vulnerable members of our society safe, well and avoiding admissions into secondary care? Come participate in the “Collaborate to Improve Care - Hackathon.” You will meet and collaborate with a diverse mix of people--from healthcare and academia--healthcare scientists, clinicians, care professionals, elderly care physicians, and public health professionals, information management professionals, engineers, computer scientists, and bio-medical specialists. Challenges will be pitched by participants and teams will be formed to find a solution to these challenges. The teams then pitch their solutions to a panel of judges, and they will mark the solutions on their viability.
