This April 21st, 22nd and 23rd, Northern Virginia Community College will be hosting its very own Hackathon: 2017 Innovation Hackathon!
This 36 hour period will be filled with tech talks, programming, cyber security practice, food, fun and cutting edge creation. The focus of this event will be on secure coding to advocate for a more secure cyberspace and showcase the importance of cyber security to organizations, companies, and everyone else. Do not be intimidated, there are talks and challenges for every level of skill from beginner to advanced. This is a great opportunity to gain experience and learn about the booming computer science and information technology industries. Learn from working together with knowledgeable individuals, hands-on experience, and promoting cyber security through secure coding.
Please bring your own rig (laptop,desktop etc), a sleeping bag (if you plan to stay overnight) and a positive attitude!

The Howard University School of Business, Department of Information Systems is proud to present the 3rd Annual #HUHACKS Hackathon beginning on Friday, March 24, 2017 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC.
#HUHACKS Hackathon is an event coordinated by the Howard University School of Business (Department of Information Systems) with this year's theme being “The Smart Life. " This theme will center around allowing people to live and work in an easier, more efficient, and happy way. The Hackathon encourage's participants to develop applications and innovations that automate, alert, organize, encourage, and educate. The hackathon is an opportunity for students to come together and bring their innovative ideas to life. In less than 24 hours students working either individually or in a team as large as four can create applications on whatever platform they desire.
We want you to take advantage of every second you can to score some sweet prizes. Are you a hacking novice? No problem. We will be hosting some introductory boot camps to get you up to speed on the basics of building an app, developing a business plan, and a sales pitch. Keep your eyes and ears open, and you'll learn more here in 24 hours than you ever would in school. Hackathons are as much a learning experience as they are a competition.

FAQs
ARE THERE ID REQUIREMENTS OR AN AGE LIMIT TO ENTER THE EVENT?
You must be a college student to participate in the Hackathon. You will be required to show ID when checking in.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO BE A TECHNICAL OR BUSINESS MENTOR?
We ask that the those functioning as a business or technical mentor would commit to 3-4 hours to assist the participants in either their coding/programming or with detailing their business idea, plan and pitch.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BE A MENTOR OR VOLUNTEER?
Reserve a ticket here on the Eventbrite page for the time slot of your choice. You only need to reserve one ticket but, you are welcome to stay as long as you would like!

I DON'T CODE, WHAT ABOUT ME?
You've found the perfect place and time to learn! There will be dedicated events and mentors to ease your way through your first hackathon experience. Please also look at the schedule and plan to attend one of the bootcamps to prepare for the competition.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ATTEND?
Attendance is 100% free, and includes food, drinks, and a Hackathon T-Shirt.
HOW DO TEAMS WORK?
We encourage people to work in teams of up to four. If you can't find a team beforehand, worry not - there will be time to form teams throughout registration.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
All you'll need is a valid college ID, and your laptop + charger.
WHAT CAN I WIN?
Money and stuff. But is that really why you go to hackathons?
WHEN CAN I START WORKING ON MY IDEA?
You are more than welcome to acquire the skills and resources ahead of time, but all code must be written in the 24-hour period at the event location in order to be considered.
