Polymer Web Components Hackathon - Los Angeles
    06 Apr - 11:00 AM
    Los Angeles, United States
Free Lunch!!! Get started with the new web components standard and Google's Polymer web components framework as part of an open source project: the Collaboration Tree.  Web components allow you to create new HTML tags which can be used with any other HTML based web technology.  Polymer adds data binding for cascading changes, as well as a broad library of polished components.  The Collaboration Tree (cTree) is an open source project in progress, built on Polymer, who's goal is to create a new large scale collaborative discussion platform (read: open think tank). This event will introduce you to the project and help you get hands on with Polymer web components.  If you want to continue learning and working with Polymer on a real project you can join a cTree team working on a specific part of the project.  For newer developers, open source project teams are a great way to build up your resume. Before the event We recommend joining our Slack group and seting up the project in advance.  If you have any issues we can help you resolve them during the event.  We also encourage you to sign up for GitHub if you don't already have an account If you're looking to jump in a bit early we're also at Hack for LA most Tuesday nights. Free parking Parking is available up the ramp off Beverly Blvd, just next to 2731 Beverly Blvd.  Take the stairs down from the center of the parking lot (push the buzzer next to the door) and follow the signs to the lobby.

            Axe-Hackathon 2019
            16 Mar - 10:00 AM
            Anaheim, United States
Contribute to making the web accessible to people with disabilities at the 4th Annual axe-Hackathon on March 16th, 2019. The Hackathon will be led by Wilco Fiers and other members of the axe team. We will be... Testing open source component libraries and logging accessibility issues Building new axe integrations Sharing knowledge and solutions with our fellow accessibility devotees Working on personal accessibility projects Hanging out with awesome people and making the web a better place This year some members of the Facebook team will also be joining the Hackathon to work on improving static analysis for accessibility support in JSX via linting and rules. They will hack on the eslint-plugin-jsx-a11y ESLint plugin and explore options to integrate axe into it. We welcome everyone to participate – coders, testers, evaluators and semantic HTML enthusiasts alike – and the issues we have gathered will appeal to all levels of skill.   Who should come? You should come. And bring your friends. This hackathon is open to all experience levels. If you can download a browser extension, you can test for accessibility. We'll also have some advanced project opportunities for our more seasoned a11y friends.   Will there be food? Yes! We will provide lunch and a coffee break. We'll email everyone for dietary restrictions closer to the event.   Will there be accessibility accommodations? We will provide captioning for the opening and closing of the hackathon. The event will mostly consist of people working independently and in small groups on various projects, so it won't be possible to caption absolutely everything said at the event. If you need ASL interpretation or other forms of accommodation, please send an email to marketing@deque.com.   Special thanks to our sponsors! We would not be able to bring this Hackathon to the community year after year without the help of our amazing sponsors. We cannot thank them enough for supporting the cause of digital equality.   This year the axe Hackathon is sponsored by...  Facebook's mission is to bring the world closer together — and that means everyone. We are excited to hack with you and support open source accessibility tools that make digital experiences more inclusive and diverse.
