High school girl and college women computer techies! You're invited to participate in the Women's Hackathon @ California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). You'll choose to address one of two challenges -- the SOLE Effects iOS app, or the ECOLIFE Conservation challenge. Both challenges have local impact and you'll be expected to design and prototype a mobile or web-based app solution to them.

It's audience participation time! Come watch teams of filmmakers pitch video & film ideas that can help disrupt the polarization that feeds hate, extremism, and violence, and help decide which ones get to move forward! Your votes and support will help decide which ones move forward into production! This event caps off the first Disruptors Hackathon - a fast-paced, 48 hour race-against-the-clock in which teams of creative artists will compete to develop a treatment for a video that can help counter polarization and violent extremism in America. The video can be any genre and take any number of different story angles. Throughout the hackathon, teams will have opportunities to get feedback from entertainment industry professionals, including producers, directors, screenwriters, and others. Teams will pitch to a live audience, a panel of judges from the entertainment industry, and an online audience watching via livestream. Teams will be evaluated based on: Entertainment value Likely impact on target audience Feasibility of production Winning teams will receive $5,000 in funding as well as support from creative arts professionals in the entertainment, marketing, and advertising industries to fully develop and distribute their creative product in the subsequent weeks and months.

The Valley Economic Alliance is hosting Valley Hackathon III on Friday, October 13 from 9am-5pm at Downtown Central Library's Auditorium. High school and college students are invited to come together to develop concepts and usable solutions to a challenge that is revealed at the technology focused competition. Teams will present their final solutions to a panel of industry experts for a chance to win first, second and third place prizes. Students will also have the opportunity to network with apprenticeship sponsors at the event, who are offering internship opportunities to applicable candidates. In preparation for the Collaboration Tree weekend hackathon online starting 9/8, we'll be participating in the Hack Night at Carbon Five LA.  If you're in the LA area come discuss the project, meet the founder, and get started developing. The Collaboration Tree framework, the first initiative from the Foundation For an Innovative Future, will be an open source tool for online collaboration around specific topics or goals.  It's part wiki, part forum, part blueprint, and completely innovative. After having difficulty trying to explain the cTree, the decision was made to create a demo site, which has already been open sourced after having significant work put into it.  There are still plenty of features which need to be completed and bugs which need to be fixed before the site can go live, so we're holding this hackathon to make a lot of progress at once. Developers of any experience level are welcome, even without web development experience.  Instructions are available on GitHub for setting up the project on your machine.
