HackCCM is the first Hackathon to ever be hosted by the County College of Morris in Randolph, NJ. The Computer Science Club and the Computer Science Department have worked in unison and created the event from the ground up. Join us from 9AM - 9PM as we kick of our FIRST Local Hack Day at the County College of Morris. An atmosphere for students to build apps, to learn how to code, to network and most of all to express creativity. At HackCCM, you’ll meet fellow hackers with diverse skill sets, learn new technologies such has how to use an API, and develop stronger skills. **Registration fee will be refunded on appearance** About the session: This hands on course will quickly dive into the practical aspect of Natural Language Processing with tools like TextBlob to give you an intuitive feel of how you can write a program that understands human-speak. We will use our new-found NLP skills to build the brains for a chatbot that will serve humanity (or something more fun). Tools/Languages used: TextBlob, Hubot, Python, Relevant dependencies About the Speaker: Karan Rajpal is a full-stack web developer at Moat, an ad-tech shop in Manhattan. He works on the company’s analytics dashboard and he uses React, Redux, Postgres and NodeJS. He has a background in Web and App development and has released a Chrome Extension and an Android app. A fan of hackathons, he recently took an interest in Natural Language Processing to work on an intra-company chatbot. Outside this tech realm, he is a music lover and wannabe tennis player. We'll give more specific details at the event (and don't start on your projects beforehand!) but you should bring any physical pieces of equipment you might need. Routers, Arduinos, Raspberry Pis, satellite dishes, tin cans and string -- whatever you think might come in handy.  2) Natasha Cohen will deliver our keynote and will be a special guest consultant. This will be an incredible opportunity to meet a real, live, cybersecurity expert.  Program overview The Agile Youth Challenge™ is a hackathon for students in grades 6-12, at any NYC or area school, with any level of programming experience. AYCNYC™ connects students to industry experts, developers, and designers from all over New York City. AYCNYC was founded by members of several NYC schools. It grew out of the organizers’ desire to blend ongoing learning experiences into the immediate and intense challenges of a hackathon. AYCNYC's goal is to bring teams together in friendly competition, give them a chance to evaluate and learn from their performance back at school, and then present another chance to compete and apply what they’ve learned. Why "Agile" Youth Challenge? Agile software development philosophy encourages a nimble, responsive, and iterative approach to coding. We employ some of these principles in the AYCNYC by encouraging participants to work in sprints, iterate on their work, and quickly learn from failure. More details on Agile philosophy are here. Activities Your team will develop a solution to a problem in any language / technology of your choice. You'll work with partners, in sprints, throughout the day. By the end of the day your team will create a working prototype of your solution.  For instance, suppose you choose to improve the experience of studying a foreign language. You might design and develop a learning app that mimics the addictive gaming experience of Flappy Bird but simultaneously teaches vocabulary. Or you might design and develop a system that connects you with other language learners (utilizing social networking APIs to extend an existing social network’s reach) to build spoken language skills in an engaging and authentic way.  You can use any technology to solve the problem. Platforms could include desktop, web, and/or mobile; languages could include Java, JavaScript, Objective C, Swift, PHP, Processing, Scratch, Snap!, C#, or any others; physical devices could include computers, tablets, mobile devices, robots, boards, droids, spaceships… If you bring it, you can use it. During the day you'll have the option to consult on your project with developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and teachers. They won't solve your problems for you but they'll help you pick your way through the difficult problems you experience. At the end of the day you'll present your work to the judges. Prizes will be awarded for several levels of age and ability, as well as a single audience favorite. Your school can register as many teams as you like. We hope you'll participate in both days -- the whole point is to learn from the first experience so you can improve in the second -- but you can join either one. What should I bring? Please bring all the technology you'll use during the event. You'll need a laptop. Perhaps tablets or mobile devices. Any hardware you might incorporate: Arduino boards, sensors, wires, cables, etc. If your computer has a non-standard video out port, bring a VGA or HDMI adapter. And bring anything else you might need. Better to have it there just in case. If you do not have the equipment you need, you must specify this in your application. We can probably help, but we'll need to plan ahead.  We'll provide pizza, drinks, and snacks throughout the day. You don't need to bring food, though you're welcome to do so if you prefer or if you have any dietary restrictions.  Cost We want to give as many kids as possible the opportunity to participate in AYCNYC™, and we want all participants to go home with awesome memories and some really cool prizes... especially if they can't afford to participate in other hackathons due to the cost. We are committed to supporting all students and you can sign up for free if necessary! However, AYCNYC™ is a not-for-profit event; every paid entry helps offset our operating costs (like the suggested donation at a museum). So please help support us if you can. Transportation We provide free buses from the Upper East and Upper West Sides of Manhattan to Riverdale Country School and back. You can request transportation in your Eventbrite registration. Check out their cool tech at Blockstack.org.** IDT is hosting its first Blockchain hackathon!! Over the span of 3 days you will work the chain to build solutions for international money transfer, calling, and/or retail transactions. The kickoff will be recorded and streamed live online. The building is closed on Friday/Saturday morning for Shabbat. In order to allow our participants more time to work on their projects, hacking will begin remotely on Friday. Doors will open at 8:30pm on Saturday at IDT. On February 23-25, 2018, the world’s largest-ever legal hackathon (legal technology innovation “marathon”) took place. Over 5,000 participants in 22 countries and 40 cities tackled wide-spread legal problems and created technologically innovative solutions. An estimated 600 teams presented their solutions to local and international judges. Winners were chosen from each host location, and from that a resulting 14 final-round teams will be pitching, presenting, and competing in New York City on April 21, 2018 in front of a global judging panel and an impactful audience of legal innovators. It's a 48-hour immersive hackathon where technologists, designers, and entrepreneurs collaborate to solve real-world problems using a variety of software and hardware tools. DEMO DAY Demo Day (Sunday, April 22nd) isan opportunity to network with VCs, startup founders, and industry professionals from across NYC. Teams of Hack Hackers will showcase and pitch their breakthrough innovations to a panel of established entrepreneurs and industry leaders for seed capital; and will be given an opportunity to turn their ideas into reality.

IgniteSTEM is a free conference for educators and thought leaders focused on transforming K-12 education through innovative approaches found in hackathons, design thinking, and maker spaces. Our keynote speakers this year will include Jonathan Rochelle, the Head of Google for Education; Pat Yongpradit, Chief Academic Officer at Code.org; Don Buckley, Co-Founder of Tools at School; and many more. Partnering with Google Education and Major League Hacking, we are hosting this year’s NYC conference on Friday, April 13th from 9am - 4:30 pm. A reception with drinks and snacks will be held afterwards at the venue until 6 PM.
