This event will be a day long hackathon focused around digital and physical gaming in a positive and welcoming environment. Participants are welcome to sign up with a team or solo, we will form teams based around interests at the beginning of the day. Free pizza, soylent, and a t-shirt will be provided for all participants. It will be happening on April 8th, from 10 am to 5pm. Come through for some fun, free food and t-shirt! Flawless Hacks is a one day, Beyoncé-themed hackathon in downtown New York City. We get together once a year to hack, build projects, meet amazing people, and jam to Beyoncé. It doesn't matter if you're a certified newbie or a seasoned coder — come dance with us and learn something new!

Columbia Statistics Club organizes the "DataFest" each semester, which is a data-focused Hackathon. This smester, we will be hosting the DataFest 2018 organized by the American Statistical Association.  Come to join us!!

Come ‘hack’ mental health at Harvard’s Global Mental Health Open Day and connect with like-minded peers and community members! The Mental Health Hackathon kicks off on Thursday April 5th at 5pm where you will have the opportunity to work alongside a team of collaborators engaged in global mental health to design solutions to pressing mental health challenges. Content and entrepreneurial experts will serve as mentors to guide participants through ideation, prototyping, testing, and pitching. Technical skills and/or programming experience is not required. We encourage individuals from diverse backgrounds and disciplines including business, arts, engineering, mathematics, anthropology, computer science, medicine, public health, education, sociology, and others. Please bring your creativity, energy, and enthusiasm!  Tentative Schedule Thursday, 4/5/18, 5pm – 10pm: The event begins with a kick-off and overview of the Hackathon challenges from our sponsors. This will be followed by team formation and breakout sessions where teams will begin brainstorming, idea refinement and creating mockups. Group mentors and experts will support teams to design and build your ideas. We ask participants to come no later than 5:30pm.   Friday, 4/6/18, 10am – 12pm: Teams will have the opportunity to re-group to further refine their proposal and prepare their pitch. The official GMH Open Day kicks off at 12:30pm and teams can meet throughout the day with their mentors to further develop their project pitches. On Friday evening during Open Day events, teams will have 5 minutes to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. Judges will ask questions, assess based on a defined criteria, and share written feedback. Saturday, 4/7/18, 12pm: The Hackathon awards presentation will take place during the closing presentations of the GMH Open Day. The winning team as well as semi-finalist will be awarded cash prizes and ongoing mentorship to support efforts in launching their idea.  Note: To ensure the best experience for those who take part in the event, we are limiting the total number of participant slots. We will work to include as many interested participants as possible, but apologize in advance if we cannot accommodate everyone. 

What does it take to launch entrepreneurs and technologists from disenfranchised and underrepresented communities? What unique challenges do these communities face? How do gender, culture, and economics affect founders' journeys? Join us for a candid discussion on topics ranging from daily microaggressions and representation to access to financial and social capital and family support. Speakers Madelena Mak is a designer and entrepreneur working in tech. She is currently the National Director at StartupBus, an international community that empowers the next generation of founders through the unique experience of a road trip and a startup competition combined. She has spoken at Facebook and Google to advocate for trans youth in tech, and she was also an award-winning mentor-in-residence at Startup Institute. She designed Trillian, an instant messenger that had reached the top of iPhone and Android app stores, as well as ZocDoc and FindDoc, both critically acclaimed doctor search engines serving the United States and Southern China respectively. Her work has been featured in Wired Magazine, CBS, Engadget, TechCrunch, technical.ly, and Brooklyn Paper. She has been awarded at TechCrunch Disrupt Hackathon in 2013, NYC Big Apps in 2013, and AngelHack in 2014. She received a BArch and BFA at Rhode Island School of Design. Stefan Dienstag, StartupBus NOLA 2017 participant is a born and raised New Yorker who has consulted in various fields ranging from fashion to mobile apps. He has spent the past few years working more in social impact, ecosystem building, and inclusivity most notably at Propeller, an impact accelerator in New Orleans. Stefan worked in the health sector and investments for underserved communities. He moved back to New York recently where he currently seeks to increase access to capital and give resources to companies seeking to do good in NOLA. Alex de Aranzeta, M.A., J.D. is a public speaker, mediator and people strategist, committed to moving the needing in the civic and innovation communities for social good. She is the Founder and CEO of Accessity, a professional services company that solves beyond equal to train and advise organizations and startups on diversity, inclusion, equity and access strategies.  Previously, Alex worked at a leading civil rights enforcement agency, where she investigated, mediated and resolved 300+ of cases of harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct; led statewide learning and development reaching 200+ organizations; and built a model language access program. She’s also worked in higher ed, scaling diversity programming and leading Title IX investigations. Today, Alex leads Accessity and manages diversity compliance, serving 50,000 government employees.  Jerelyn Rodriguez is the Co-Founder and CEO of The Knowledge House. As an alumna of the first KIPP schools, Jerelyn was raised with the belief that knowledge is power. This hunger for knowledge and the opportunity to leverage technology for social good inspired her to start The Knowledge House. Previously, she coordinated STEM after-school programming at Beyond Z and was the Bronx Field Director for Reshma Saujani's 2013 campaign for New York City Public Advocate. In 2011, Jerelyn joined Students for Education Reform (SFER) as the National Program Director, organizing and coaching college students in 35 states to advocate for education reform. Prior to SFER, Jerelyn worked in the public school system, teaching and designing student programs. Jerelyn has a degree in film studies from Columbia University. Jerelyn has recently spoken on panels at SXSWedu, the New York City Social Innovation Festival and NASA’s SpaceApps Challenge. She is on the leadership council for South Bronx Rising Together, a founding Datanaut at NASA, a fellow at Camelback Ventures, and the Entrepreneur in Residence at the BXL: Bronx Business Incubator. The panel will be moderated by Colleen Wong, lead conductor of StartupBus New York 2018, Women⁺ in Blockchain Edition. Q&A with audience    Speakers:    Charlie O'Donnell, Partner and Founder at Brooklyn Bridge Ventures Charlie O'Donnell is the sole Partner and Founder at Brooklyn Bridge Ventures.  The fund makes seed and pre-seed investments and was the first venture firm located in Brooklyn--where he was born and raised.  Brooklyn Bridge invested in the first rounds of Canary, The Wing, Orchard Platform, Tinybop, Hungryroot, Clubhouse, Ringly, and goTenna among others.  Working in venture capital since 2001, he apprenticed his way through the asset class with analyst roles on the original Union Square Ventures team as well as at the General Motors pension fund--a long time limited partner in many top tier funds.  At First Round Capital, he sourced the firm's investments in Singleplatform (sold to Constant Contact) and GroupMe (sold to Skype).  Charlie discovered GroupMe at the Techcrunch hackathon where the service had been built.  He also sourced investments in Backupify (which was an idea he had tweeted to the founder, a friend of his), chloe + isabel, and Refinery29.    Charlie bikes to work, has done seven triathlons, four marathons, and runs the kayaking program in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The longest he has consecutively been outside of the five boroughs of New York City is three weeks.        Sumeet Shah, VC in Residence at Galvanize & Chief Strategy Officer, News Picks USA  Sumeet is the Chief Strategy Officer at the US division of News Picks USA, a refined news experience where content is picked by experts and thought-leaders.
