Code for the Kingdom Global Hackathon Seattle
02 Oct - 07:00 PM
Seattle, United States
Code for the Kingdom HACKATHON
Transforming Lives Hackathon
Ideate. Build. Impact.
Create technology that matters.
A hackathon movement to ignite the Christian passion and purpose of technologists and entrepreneurs to innovate culture shaping technologies that would reclaim our times for the Gospel.
Engage, envision, challenge, and release the culture makers for sustained Kingdom impact.
WHAT IS IT?
Code for the Kingdom is back for the second year, and this time Seattle will join 13 other cities across the world in the global first-inspired hackathon as part as the Global Code for the Kingdom hackathon weekend.
Code for the Kingdom is an initiative of Leadership Network, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization fostering innovation by bringing talented people together to take ideas to implementation to impact.
On the weekend of October 2-4, 2015, we are bringing together technologists, entrepreneurs, creative’s, businesspeople, ministry leaders, visionaries, and anyone passionate about faith and technology, to use their gifts to advance the Gospel.
The Global Hackathon will run in 14 world cities simultaneously, including Addis Ababa, Albuquerque, Atlanta, Bangalore, Guatemala City, Houston, Jakarta, Kansas City, London, Los Angeles, Nairobi, Raleigh, Seattle and Waterloo.
You will be able to work with a local team in Seattle, or even join with teams in one or more of the participating cities.
Together our vision is to provide more opportunities for communities all over the world to participate and showcase innovation and entrepreneurship. We expect over 2,000 people to participate across the planet, and address a number of challenges aimed at helping release the oppressed, teaching God’s Word, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and supporting the church and the body of Christ.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
We want to catalyze friendship, passion, purpose, and collaboration in technical and entrepreneurial communities.
To challenge and release you to create and use 21st century technologies to serve God’s Kingdom.
To create a scalable community across the world to accelerate and encourage Christian innovators.
WHY DOES IT COST MONEY?
First, we want everyone to be able to come regardless of cost. If you need a scholarship, contact Diane (dianehoeft@gmail.com).
Second, this is a not-for-profit event and the cost of the tickets will cover less than half the cost of the event. The rest of the budget will be provided by generous sponsors who want to support and activate Christians using their gifts to advance the Gospel.
Your money buys: six good meals, healthy snacks and tea & coffee on tap. An awesome Seattle venue, designed for co-working and hacks. Lots of light and space. Room to roll out your mat and sleeping bag if you want to sleep-over on Friday or Saturday night. Great mentors and judges. Special awards (lets see what our sponsors come up with!) A Sunday mini-service to pray and worship together. A chance to hang out with 120+ like-minded future best friends (based on last year's attendance). Topical and inspiring Kingdom challenges for us all to build towards. Fun people to build wonderful stuff with. A team of friendly, enthusiastic volunteers who will work their tails off to give you a great weekend.
A Seattle judging panel will choose the award prizes to the best projects.
The 2015 program will conclude in December 2015. Every participating city will give two of their local winners to a Global Judging Panel that will decide the best projects created across the world during the Global Hackathon Weekend.
A final report will be published, summarizing key highlights and results of the 2015 Code for the Kingdom Global initiative.
WE ARE LOOKING AT
Developing solutions that utilize wearable technology to advance the gospel
Creating tools to help advance accountability in the digital age.
Reaching the digital native in the Islamic world
Use Google Cardboard in Code for the Kingdom project.
Develop technologies that encourage and inspire others to participate in joyful, Christ-centered generosity
and much more...
We will be using Indigitous.org as the place for projects, community, and collaboration. Indigitous.org serves the Global Hackathon by providing a global online community site that connects all Code for the Kingdom participants and projects. Indigitous is a movement passionate about connecting people to Jesus using digital strategies. In addition to adding your project to Indigitous.org, the platform will also enable you to:
Search for projects you might be interested in Learn about projects others are working on Join a project Recruit others to join your project Communicate with your project members Submit your project for judging
CHALLENGES FROM PREVIOUS CODE FOR THE KINGDOM HACKATHONS
HOW CAN TECHNOLOGY...
• be leveraged to create, cultivate, and strengthen society's foundational relationships of marriage, family, friendships?
• bring the word of God to the first generation of children who are growing up with mobile devices?
