Part of the US Ignite program is to drive innovation in the community and build two-to-four applications each year that contribute toward the larger pool of applications from San Diego and other Smart Cities, now a total of 25 with more to come. So far, over 100 open-source applications have already been developed in the participating cities. One way that Smart Cities have successfully supported the development of these new applications is through the Reverse Pitch Hackathon. In this format, teams participate in a program that extends much longer than a typical weekend hackathon.
