After SatSummit, the mapping fun doesn't have to end! Come grab a hot dinner and drinks with other map enthusiasts after SatSummit on Thursday Sept 20, 6pm-8pm, for an OpenStreetMap mapathon where we will help map Detroit as part of the Detroit Mapping Challenge  and urgent humanitarian mapping needs as part of Humanitarian OpenStreetMap. You just need to bring a laptop; no prior OpenStreetMap editing experience required. We will teach you everything you need to know! We will be serving pizza (gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options will be available) and light alcoholic drinks. Hello members of the DC Tableau User Group!   You are invited to participate in the @Tableau #ACLEDconflictViz Hackathon in support of the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED).  ACLED collects the dates, actors, types of violence, locations, and fatalities of all reported political violence and protest events across Africa, South Asia, South East Asia and the Middle East. Political violence and protest includes events that occur within civil wars and periods of instability, public protest and regime breakdown. ACLED’s aim is to capture the forms, actors, dates and locations of political violence and protest as it occurs across states, and makes both data and analysis open to freely use by the public. Join us for the amazing opportunity to work with the brilliant ACLED team, facinating data, and your fellow tuggers to add viz clarity to crisis. We are putting social back into Social Testing (Competition)! Social Testing Competition is now a team sport. Bring your tester friend to our 3rd "Hackathon" on July 25, 2018 and compete together! At the event you will: - meet other testers - have fun finding bugs and issues  - get good karma points for helping out a local start-up - maybe even walk away with a prize!   Hosted by Inflectra, Social Testing Competition/Hackathon is a friendly contest among local software testers to test a software/app to find and report bugs. Teams receive extensive mentorship by Innovation Mentors, Subject Matter Experts, faculty, and staff who will guide the teams through the design process. Prototyping supplies will be available on both sites. Below, is a master timetable of work sessions coordinated between Gaza and Baltimore.  BEYOND THE HACKATHON: For those interested, teams will continue to work together on an ad hoc basis and receive guidance from faculty for a duration of 2-3 weeks and possibly even longer. OUTCOMES: At the completion of the hackathon, participants should be able to: Identify and define public health problems and needs in a specific domain for design purposes. Understand and engage with stakeholders in humanitarian settings to understand needs, constraints, and context, using appropriate research and design tools Apply formal design processes from different disciplines for the design of solutions and interventions given a set of constraints Apply relevant and appropriate technologies and tools to prototype their designs Present their problems and designs to a diverse audience effectively Function effectively in a team with diverse backgrounds and perspectives Articulate a deeper understanding of perspectives and concerns of students in the Middle East and the United States. النتائج: مع اكتمال الهاكاثون، سيكون المشاركون قادرين على: تحديد و تعريف مشاكل الصحة العامة في نطاق محدد لأغراض التصميم. فهم و الارتباط ب (التفاعل مع) أصحاب المصالح ضمن سياقات إنسانية من أجل فهم الاحتياجات و القيود و السياق باستخدام أدوات بحث و تصميم مناسبة. تطبيق عمليات تصميم رسمية من تخصصات مختلفة لتصميم حلول و تدخلات أخذاً بعين الاعتبار مجموعة معينة من القيود. تطبيق تقنيات و أدوات مناسبة و ذات صلة لنمذجة تصاميمهم. عرض فعال لمشاكلهم و تصاميمهم لجمهور متنوع. العمل بفعالية ضمن فريق بخلفيات و رؤىً متنوعة IP RULES: By registering, participants agree that all concepts contained in the idea submission forms will be the property of their respective institution (JHU or Mercy Corps, based on the location), and will be managed according to the established IP rules of their institution. Some ideas submitted may be selected to include in proposals by the program organizers for funding for further development of these solutions.
